I'm wondering if my 13 year old daughter might have some sort of high functioning autism? She is incredibly smart... She has a photographic memory. She has described it as taking pictures with her eyes, and then filing it in drawers in her brain that she opens when needed. She is also an incredible artist. I've known there is something going on with her, but I don't know what it is. I saw a you tube video that made me wonder if it's autism. She is very ocd ish. She also does not do well with any unexpected changes to her routine.
She has a very hard time confiding in me and telling me what is bothering her. She has said she can't talk to me, because her voice in her brain won't let her. She is incredible at school. Straight a's, perfect behavior, ECT. But at home, she is Moody, and ALWAYS sends like something is bothering her. She won't open up to anyone about anything. She has friends at school that she socialize with as normal.
She also gets VERY VERY upset if she gets one answer wrong on her school work. I put no pressure on her in this department. As long as she behaves well and does her best, I am proud of her regardless .
I just don't know what to do from here. Bringing her to the doctor, or another counselor, will only set off her very troubled behavior. I want to be sure that I have a more certain idea that this might be what's going on before I risk turning our lives upside down to pursue this self diagnosis. Myself and her father both have siblings with forms of high functioning autism. But she doesn't act like either one of them do. I know everyone is different tho.
I don't know what to do from here, so I'm giving this website a shot. Does anyone have any useful advice for me?
