Hello,

I am a 23-year old autistic man from Auckland,New Zealand that lives with my parents and sister.I will post my life so far.

I was born in 1995 and got through six years of primary school(what elementary is called in New Zealand) then made it through a year of junior high school then on the second year I started getting bullied and it got to the point where 2-3 of the bullies would gang up on me and try to assault me and only a teacher intervening stopped it and my parents tried to get the school to stop the bullying but even when my Dad threatened to get the police and lawyers involved nothing really happened.

so I was pulled out and home-schooled for a few years and completed that then I just sat at home and occasionally going out with my parents and sister until a few days before Christmas 2015.

When I had an argument with my parents about not wanting to go out and I snapped and put my hand through the bathroom windows and had to be taken to the Smales Farm Urgent Care clinic on Auckland's North Shore to get five cuts stitched up and for 2016 I became somewhat withdrawn like I didn't go out and just played games and watched DVDs I eventually got help in 2017 through the public healthcare system and saw a psychologist would suggested I tried antidepressants so I tried Sertraline first which did not really do anything so I was switched to Fluoxetine which now that I'm on a 50 mg dose is helping quite a bit I also tried Risperidone which did not help and it made my feel tired so I tapered off that.
Currently I've been worrying where I'll live and how I'll cope financially.

so that's my life so far.

Welcome!! I hope you find this forum helpful, and informative.

I recall reading about New Zealand when I was watching Zena. On the show everything looked lush, green, and pristine.

We're glad you're here.

Hi and welcome, I hope that you enjoy it here. It sounds like the medication you got has helped I wish you had been helped sooner it sounds pretty tough for you. This is an interesting forum where I hope you feel comfortable and accepted.

You will discover that loneliness is a very common theme here. If you can find someone who understands you, wonderful. Being with someone who does not understand you is worse than being alone. Believe me, I know what I am talking about here; I have endured both; the operative word being "endure."

What are your skills and interests? This would be a good place to start both for finding someone compatible and starting a future. Sitting around playing games is not going to accomplish anything.

Lack of social contact is practically a standard trait in autistics. It may be do to fear of interaction, a lack of social skills and abilities, or anywhere in between. Talk to your psychologist about this. And don't be afraid to get a new psychologist if the one you have is not working out well. Many her went through a dozen or more before fing one that fit.

Yes, somewhat of a familiar story of my own. I was 24 when I got diagnosed. I've been on risperidone too, currently I'm on aripiprazole instead which works for me in stopping too much obsessiveness.

But I didn't really come into my own until I started doing volunteering work and attending peer groups where we do lots of activities together, go out places do things like rock climbing, photography and kayaking.

Look into what's available for you in your area both in terms of volunteering and groups in or out of the circles of conditions you have.

Mental health teams should be looking to offer and suggest more holistic approaches than just medication which is really just a part of a solution.

The visits to the psychologist ended around March this year and I've been transferred to my family's general physician who checks how I'm going on the medication and general health in fact Mum took me to him for a general checkup which included weight, height and blood pressure.

It really stunk that the junior high school didn't really do anything about the bullying even when my Dad threatened to get the NZ police and his lawyer involved.
