Hello

Hello,

My husband and eldest son (late teens) have diagnoses of Asperger syndrome and my younger son (also late teens) was referred for assessment, but does not wish to pursue diagnosis.

As I have worked with professionals with respect to my family's support, it has been suggested that I may also be 'on the spectrum'. In many ways, my social isolation, difficulties managing some life skills (housekeeping and money management) and a long history of mental illness in my teens and twenties may be indicative of an underlying autistic spectrum condition.
However, I am unsure whether I wish to undergo formal assessment at the moment.

I am employed in a profession that I enjoy (although it is largely home based) and family stability currently means more to me than an active social life.

I have joined this forum because I will need advice about how to support my family members and because I may need a little support or reassurance with my own issues.

Thank you for reading.

Hi s0me0ne :)

You have found a strong and supportive community that should be able to offer you guidance.

Welcome!
I also haven't sought formal assessment, but I think I'm pretty highly functional.
Though if I'm having problems I will consider doing so.
I advise you to do the same unless you're having problems you want more help with than we can provide.
Just my two bits

Good morning! I'm new too, but this seems to be a great place to talk and find support and understanding from the friendly community. :)

Welcome, @s0me0ne. Whether you're on the spectrum or not, officially diagnosed or not, this is a good place to come to ask questions, share your experiences, and learn what worked for others and what didn't.

Hello and welcome. You definitely have come to the right place - it's easy to start feeling like family here, so ask away.
