I'm 39 and was diagnosed just before lockdown. I have always had the sense that I was different from other people since I was five, particularly when it came to making friends and the frequency of misinterpretations in conversations. I was never able to keep up with conversations and encountered a lot of cruelty from people who expected me to understand what was happening in their lives. My greatest struggle is reading people's body language and tone of voice, particularly when I'm feeling stressed and anxious. I have exceptional hearing and a very good memory, both proving a strength and a weakness as I'm prone to overthinking situations and can hear very high tones like cat deterrent devices. Hoping to find some advice and chat with people similar to me.

Hi and welcome. Your experiences sound very similar to many of ours. Being able to understand yourself can help make life easier so feel free to join in with any of the topics here.

Thank you. I'm currently having to deal with workplace problems so I need to find people who understand. I've yet to feel someone does.

Just browse around and read anything that you feel relates to you, and don't be shy to join in conversations and ask questions when you want. None of us are the same but we seem to share many similar trends.

Hello and welcome! Many of the things you wrote about are quite familiar to me, and from what I’ve read from others, common for those of us here in the forum. I’m glad you found us. I hope this is a meaningful place for you

Welcome!
I relate to what you wrote. The acute hearing is a sensory issue of mine.
I can hear those higher than normal sounds also.
Everyone says I have cat ears. But they can be an overload much of the time.

Age five was when I knew I was different with not making friends or understanding most people too. You'll find a lot of understanding here. :)
