Hello. I'm Laura. I've just started learning about Aspbergers and other ASDs within the last few months and I think I've finally found a place where I fit. Most everything I read has me thinking, "Wow, so I'm not the only person who does that!" I'm actually very excited about this as I've spent the past 33 years wondering why I wasn't like most other people I knew.

I'm now deciding if getting an official diagnosis is worth the trouble. Aside from being able to tell my mom that I was right that all of her "helpfulness" was actually not even a little helpful and actually detrimental (sorry that is one thing I'm very bitter about). I already have dx of ADD and social phobia.

I'm married, have two children, and work as an accountant.

Welcome to the Forum Melame!

You should definitely get diagnosed! You're better off know than not knowing.

Hello Laura, from another Laura!

I am 38, and getting a diagnosis changed my life and the way i viewed the past. It has also shaped how i live my life now. It was the best thing i've done for myself in a long time.

The decision is personal and varies with each individual. If you choose to seek one, let us know how things progress. If you choose to stay self diagnosed, it's cool too, and you're accepted here either way. :)

Welcome to AC!!

hi and welcome its makes an awfull lot of difference noing your not going crazy thats how i felt before gettin diagnosed its a good place to be here good luck in what you do

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will probably seek a diagnosis once I've been in my job a little while and find a new doctor. I haven't been on this job very long and it is, by far, the best job I've ever had.

For me, I KNOW I have it, and I have been mis diagnosed so many times, I don't have any faith in doctors of this type.
If you do get diagnosed, you run the risk of being pushed out, at work or of society.
I would never tell you what to do, and this is different for everybody, but everything has good and bad attached to it. Just trying to be helpful.
Good Luck

I'm 31 (seem like 21,lol) and just got diagnosed too!! I'm new here too and so glad to find other who found out about it in their adulthood!! Kind of makes me angry to find out only now, but it's nobody's fault :/

I've very rarely had problems with doctors. Only my current one and one who I had when i was younger have been problematic and wouldn't work with me. My current one because he is a pill pusher, the other one because he was extremely religious.

I don't think a diagnosis could hurt me. Anyone who has been around me for more than a little while knows that I'm not exactly like everyone else. Most people just think that I think I'm too good for them, which is not usually the case.

I feel the same Hadassah, I SO wish I would have known early on.
