Hello!

Bel

Well-Known Member
Hello, my name is Bel.
I'm a 19 year old Aspie!

I don't really have any friends, but it's fine because I still have my animals.

I moved out into my own home at 18, partly for myself but mostly because I wanted to show all the nay-sayers that it's perfectly possible for people like me to be able to do things for ourselves, with support, understanding and going through different channels :)
Although the obsessive cleaning keeps me very busy haha!

I do art and have a small online business.

Here's one of my lovely pets, hermit crabs make great company for a fellow house hermit :)

Way to go. I remember when I got my first apartment and everyone talked smack and doubted me. My own family discouraged me more than my friends. Good for you chick. You seem like a pretty cool person.

Welcome to AC, Bel. Love your picture. Reminded me of when I was a toddler, living on the island of Guam. I used to herd the hermit crabs I'd find on the beach. :)

Hello. Well done, you sound like a very strong individual. Life is always better with animals.

I sure you do well living on your own. I managed since I was 17. Nice crab and welcome to the site.

Animals are so much more peaceful to be around! Hermit crabs are surprisingly interactive and entertaining :D

Yes I also find that family are quick to place limitations down when you can't communicate what you want, and how you'll do it.

Thanks everyone :D nice to meet you all!

One thing so many of us (not all) seem to have in common is an ability to bond with animals of all kinds as opposed to humans.

It was HORRIBLE to start with partly of having to talk business and formally to multiple people, face to face and then phone @_@ plus change, new surroundings etc... But it becomes the best place in the world with time ^_^

Something that helps with big change like that is creating a 'survival pack'. It's a bag full of kit to help soothe, such as equipment to draw, something to prevent sounds, something to smell, objects to hold (and destroy!) and all the gear to prevent sensory overload. Routine planners, notebooks... Etc! Whatever you use or need to cope with situations you can't escape from.

Welcome Bel :)

Great to see you are doing a good job of fitting into the world.

My fish are my closest companions :D

Big scary world out here huh? Never doubt yourself and you will continue to succeed in it
