Help make a difference! Finally a Study on Sexual-Orientations and Gender-Identities in Autism

Rita George

Active Member
Please help make a difference in the lives of people with ASD. We want to understand better and raise awareness of, and respect for the sexualities and gender-identities of people on the spectrum, whether it be heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality, asexuality or questioning, alongside different gender-identities.

But we can't do this unless we speak up!

Would you consider sparing 20 minutes of your time in taking an online survey by clicking on the link below.

We hope to embrace our sexual diversity as we do our neurodiversity.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Much appreciated.

The "we" in the post keeps shifting perspective. That is confusing. If someone wants research participation, just be direct and do not try to make it something it is not, like advocacy.

I think researchers would get a better response stating something like "I am a NT studying autism and sexuality. In order to publish my next paper [/secure my next grant], I need to complete research with ASD individual participation. Please participate if you are a ASD and are willing. Participation involves completing the survey linked herein. Thank you."

I asked the person if she already did it year or 2 ago. What concerns me is that she's registered under 2 different names... not very professional :) if the person wants to get positive response than she (I'm presuming it is really "she") should have contacted moderators 1st.

Wait a minute! Again? :D
Hello,

I have put up the link a second time, as we were not meeting our required respondent numbers. It is the same study, as was circulated earlier. We will be releasing a second study shortly which has a qualitative methodology.
Thank you for your interest.

I use the term 'we' as several members of our family are on the Autism spectrum, and it is something near and dear to my heart. I completely and totally agree with you that it would not be in good faith if one were to try and portray a research appeal as something else. This research study is something that I have been wanting to do for a very long time and it has taken me many years to get to this stage, and I feel very blessed and thankful that I am on this journey now and sincerely wish that this study and others to follow after this will bring support, relief and understanding to many.

Hello,
The study was first out in June, 2014. I re-posted the link two days ago, as we did not receive the numbers of participants we were hoping for as per our timelines.
The moderators of this site were contacted and permission granted for the survey to be up.
The study is registered under the student researcher myself, Rita George, as this is my PhD study topic.

Ok :) I guess it's ok. The reason why I was saying "again", is because a year or 2 ago there's another survey similar to this one and I think organizers did get enough participants. Maybe that study was done by a different University or organization. It was too long time ago, I can't remember who it was but I remember the survey. I hope you'll get enough participants but because a lot of people have already participated in something like that, they might not want to do it again. But then, there's a lot of new members, so you never know.

Yes, I hope we get the numbers we are looking for.
Thank you for your interest. There are several new members and perhaps a few might be inclined to take the study or spread the word around.
Best wishes,
Rita:-)

Considering this thread got more replies (even if they were inquiries if this is a similar study from the past), I'll keep this one around and delete the other one.

Thank you very much! I appreciate that.
I wasn't aware of how to edit or delete or whether it could be done, and thus posted a second time.
Appreciate your help and patience.
