I’ve been trying to find a forum like this for a while.
I have two brothers with autism (mild-moderate, and moderate to severe) and I’m starting to suspect that I have autism (probably aspergers). I’m a girl (13 yrs old), i’m multiple years ahead in terms of academia (except for literature, i’ve always had an issue with main idea and theme but my writing is fine, i’m planning to graduate in like 2022 maybe)?? Also, i started speaking at like 16 months in full sentences (in somali, not english. I didn’t speak english until about 5/6 years old just because of my home environment)

I have a really bad tendency to just force myself to adapt into new situations, for example i’ll force eye contact but i’m not really looking at them, just their nose bridge. I memorize memes that go viral, and when I used to go to normal school ( I don’t anymore and I’m now homeschooled but I teach myself everything and just ask for some money to buy textbooks), and i had a tendency of just reusing joke. Teachers loved me and hated me, i took control of groups but when any communication happened, i just quit.

I also have a high tendency of hyper focusing, once i’m interested and have motivation in something i’ll heavily focus on it and nothing can stop me from focusing on it. I also have weird obsessions with biochemistry, the history of horn africans (i’m a horner lol), and geopolitics. I took one of those aspie tests and got 169/200 for neurosiversity or something?

Sorry for the rant I probably just rambled
Anyways hi!

edit: The reason why I don’t approach my doctor or parents about it is because they’ll blame me for being annoying and that they can’t risk another kid with autism.

Hi, I never heard 'Horner' before, lol. Anyway, it does run in families and women are known to be less easy to identify as being on the spectrum as well as presenting symptoms differently. A online search like: women symptoms autism (or similar) should turn up some information. Some with a less severe set of symptoms and good ability to develop compensating techniques can have difficulty getting others to accept they are in fact autistic. Btw, the 'Aspergers' term is no long used in the USA (not sure where you are at) and it is called Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Hi ayan :)

Hi and welcome. I think graduating in 2022 would mean you'd be rather ahead of the crowd for your age? It sounds an interesting way to learn, I hope you have enough help and support? I am not always sure if a diagnosis is useful for people who have already worked out their status and are researching it, as we can possibly find out strategies and improve our situation once we have found useful information.

On the other hand, if you are noticing difficulties in life you want help to address, like therapy for example, you might want a diagnosis. There's quite a lot of understanding more recently that girls with Aspergers/ASD1 present differently from boys, and there's more being researched and written about this.

Look at Jessica Kingsley publishers for some useful texts about girls and women with ASD, perhaps you could do a project on autism and use some of your textbook money to buy books that inform you?

You will find some useful discussions here, and this is a friendly place.

Hi Ayan, Welcome to the forum. Now I am wondering what a Horner is, I have never heard of that either. Hope you can find some answers. I personally have learned a lot on this forum, and love the people on here.

I believe I’m around 3 years ahead which honestly isn’t that much for me. School sometimes gets difficult because I’m just kinda teaching myself 6-8 classes a semester with around 50$, but i’m too focused on this dream to give it up anyway. I would say for others with difficulties in school to try it, but it takes A LOT of motivation and effort to push through and stay on track and staying on standard.

In terms of the projects, it is actually something I’m really interested in, so right now I’m trying to get into as many competitions as possible to gather money and probably contact someone at the local university. Those research papers and articles are really cool and I actually ended up crying reading them cause I related to it so much lmao. I would really like therapy or someone to talk to, but my parents would freak because they wouldn’t want their “golden child” to be considered different. Thank you so much lol !!!
