Hi all

Hi,

I'm Sandalwood because I remember the fabulous smell of sandalwood from the days when it was not an endangered tree. That ages me! But I'm interested in what interests other aspies.
I'm in Norwich - anyone else? There seem to be no facilities for the average middle aged female aspie here. Doctors in Norwich suffer a strange affliction - I can go to any doctor and tell them I have autism and they suddenly stick their fingers in their ears and hum a tune until I change the subject. Is that a common disability? Is it an NT syndrome? I have a diagnosis, so it's not as if I'm asking them to open the NHS wallet and actually comply with the Autism Strategy or anything so ridiculous. I've seen their cars outside and it must cost a packet to run them, so we can all see where the money goes. I'm not bitter - I'm autistic and we don't do bitter. I prefer wine.

Hi Sandlewood,

I'm new to the forum also. But have visited several times.Thete seems to be a wide range of caring and understanding members.

I struggled through most of my life before I found out that I have Aspergers. It has helped just knowing what is unique about me. It seems we can all be different in our Aspergers traits.

I'm still learning and hope the same for you!

Hi Sandalwood! Welcome to Aspies Central.

First, I give you props on the humor in the last sentence of your intro :) Very clever.

Second, and most importantly, we are not like those doctors you have been visiting. We're extremely understanding, and many of us also happen to be Aspies. Feel free to post and check back often if you have any questions, concerns, or insights you would like to share with us. Enjoy everything we have to offer here.

Hi,
I am going to be 48 and have struggled my whole life. I did not find out until this year that I had Aspergers. I have been diagnosed as just about every thing but. Now that I know, It is a huge relief, and I can finally make sense of things.
I appreciate all of the kind people here, and the fact that we understand, or at least tolerate each other. I am extremely outgoing for an Aspie, and have been very comfortable here.
Welcome.

Hi and thank you to everyone who responded to my first posting, it was so nice to receive such a warm welcome.

I was having horrendous anxiety about a work situation which was keeping me awake and causing me chest pains (scary). I think it has been resolved, but it's not the first time, nor probably the last, over a career that has spanned many careers. Q: How can you tell the age of a working Aspie? A: Count the employers on their CV.

As I didn't want to be medicated, I couldn't go to a doctor, because that's all they do around here (they're not allowed to play with knives, thank goodness). I went to see my hypnotherapist though, as I find she helps me connect to what is bothering me, and has a good way with relaxation. Now I'm feeling more in control, I hope to be able to contribute to the forum.
