Hello,
I just stumbled upon this site today, by accident, after having spent about 4 hours looking at anything and everything related to this 'syndrome'. I am already a member of one of the more famous (or should that be 'infamous'?) websites that are dedicated to this topic, and, I have to admit, I am not really happy with their opposition to medical research that would help us to understand this condition better.
The truth of the matter is that even though I am pretty certain that my years of misery in trying to adjust to a society that is completely dysfunctional has left me with the very strong impression that I may have Asperger's Syndrome, there are many 'symptoms' that are generally accepted to be associated with Asperger's Syndrome that I simply do not have (ex. inability to maintain eye contact), and for this reason I am not sure that I am like this, even though I recently visited a psychologist and informed her of my suspicions about this, and her unofficial diagnosis was that I probably have it.
I am trying to figure out why I am unable to both find full-time employment and, just as importantly, hold on to it when I do find it. This, for me, is the number one issue at the moment, and one of the discoveries that I made in my quest to understand this - difference in perspective, let's call it - is that people who self-identify as 'Aspies' are at a serious disadvantage when it comes to employment, of any kind, anywhere. I sit here, alone, with nothing better to do than look for work that does not exist (there is high unemployment where I live), read books, visit websites like LinkedIn and this one, and... well, that's about it. That's not much of a life, is it? Where are my friends? I don't have any, so I guess I lie somewhere on the 'spectrum', even though I hate the thought, the possibility, of being like this forever. What a waste.
I really like these emoticons: :spin::rolleyes2::S - and all the rest.
:balanced: Yin/Yang - that's how we should be; balanced.
Anyway, time to go
