Hi everyone.

I'm not entirely sure how to introduce myself but I'm a 25 year old guy with AS. I was diagnosed when I was 13. I haven't met anyone else with the condition and I thought it would be a nice to try and find people I can relate to. I am currently trying to overcome many struggles in my life. I realize that hiding from people is not going to help and in order to be happy I need to have more confidence and accept who I am.

I love music, whether it's playing piano or composing my own songs (or both). I also play a lot of games and do a little bit of basic programming as a hobby. More often than not I don't finish anything I start, but when I do it's often a rewarding experience even if I'm the only one to ever see it. My mind seems to jump around everywhere and I can't stay focused on one thing for very long but when I am focused on something I can be completely obsessed with it.

Some of my other interests are: arts and crafts, cats, watching Dr.Who and other random nonsense, cooking, reading, and sometimes just doing absolutely nothing.

That's all from me for now but I hope to get to know some of you soon and thanks for reading!

Welcome. You will find people fairly open and easy to talk to. When I joined here it was somewhat world changing to be able to talk to others like myself.

Hi! I'm about the same age as you (I'm 21) and I also love cats. Actually, I'm adopting a cat on Friday. Do you have cats? I have two back living with my parents in New York, though this will be the first cat that I take care of by myself. She's five years old and her name is Tarot.

Thanks a lot for the warm welcomes.

I do have one cat currently named Lilah. She's a very friendly and affectionate tabby cat. The last cat I had was a manx so it took a little while to get used to having a cat with a tail. I've always been fond of them as they're an easier pet to keep than a dog and are cuter in my opinion.

Welcome, @Cosmic! :)

I like music as well, but don't compose my own songs.
I sing in a choir and play the accordion though.

What kind of songs do you compose? Do you have favourite genres?
Do you publish your music or do you only do this for yourself?

Thanks! I used to post stuff online but I haven't done it for a long time. I have been meaning to start a Youtube channel for music but I have put it off for years now. It's mostly because I stopped composing for a while but I'm trying to get back into it.

The accordian is awesome, it's definitely on my list of favourite sounds. I want to pick one up eventually though I'm not sure how well my piano experience would transfer over (if any at all). I love a whole lot of genres of music but I'm mostly into composing video game and electronic music. Sometimes classical music and even Baroque era if I am in the mood for it. When I feel like something completely different maybe a rap beat, a love song or something jazzy. I love melodies in music so I stay away from repetitive genres like house music (and any kind of music without distinctive melodies). That being said, I'm still a big fan of Goa trance and some other genres that don't fit the bill.

I'm not really sure what category my music falls under but I guess most people would just call it EDM. There are a lot of different styles I'm inspired by that all sort of fit together to make whatever it is that I make. I would love to share as currently you'd be correct to say that I only do it for myself. I've always found it a great way to relieve stress and it's the only medium I have to express myself as I'm not nearly as good with words. A song can sometimes say so much more and without any words at all. It is a great talent to be able to sing though and maybe one day I will amass the courage to try it as well.

I think it could help since you are used to the keys and so you can transfer this to play the part of the right hand of an accordion. I don't really play the piano (I never had lessons or tried to learn it properly on my own), but my accordion skills help me to play basic stuff on the piano anyway by transfering my experiences. So in my opinion it could work the other way around as well.

Hi & Welcome,
I also like Dr Who from time to time. Cats are OK, but right know I'm on the dog track with 4 Chihuahuas. Arts and crafts are also an interest. Hope you enjoy communicating with other aspies.
