Hi, I have a lot of names.

Hello! does this happen to anyone else when you "wear" names according to how you feel?
In any case, my name at the time is Lain. Pleased to meet you.

My diagnosis is in progress, but my therapists agre that I'm definitely autistic, tho it seems i have traits of ADHD. The diagnnosis isn't written down on a fancy piece of paper for now, but they have have made it clear that I am ND, and they're helping me taking my neurodivergence into account in therapy. And it's doing wonders for me! Both in my day to day functions and my mental health. I think this diagnosis changed my life for the better.

So I wanted to ask you guys a question. I seem to always, ALWAYS, need to have my left hand busy. If i dont use my fidget toy it goes to pick my lips, which i had thought was dermatilomania (cause i also pick my face every time i look into the mirror), but now I realized that it just needs to be busy with anything it can find. If i don't keep it busy i feel very uncomfortable for some reason.
The question is, does this happen to any of you? I'm curious cause this discovery of why i picked my lips and it being so easy to solve has me lowkey baffled. Do any of you have a hand or a limb that needs to be stimming all the time?

Thought that question would fit well in an introduction post cause it can spark some conversation, hope you don't mind.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day~

Hello and welcome, Lain. Hope you like it here.

I don’t have exactly the same experience of needing one specific body part to stay busy, but it sure is hard to stay still. My need to stim takes over all different parts of my body depending on how much energy or anxiety I feel. I can get focused on needing balance in my body, so whatever I do on one side, I feel the need to do on the other side.

Do you have a variety of good fidgets?

Just curious, is your left your dominant hand?

hi!
I also stim with other body parts. I flap my hands, bounce in place, rock back and forth, and some others i'm forgetting.

I only have one fidget toy and its really weird, but it gets the job done. I'd like to get a tangle cause they look like exactly what i need, but I don't have the money to get it, mostly cause of international shipping. A slinky would be nice as well i suppose.

My left hand is not my dominant hand. I write and draw with my right hand, but for some very specific tasks the left hand does a better job for some reason. I usually draw with my right hand and keep my fidget in my left hand.

Thanks tree and Rodafina for the welcoming messages!

EDIT: did some googling (in duckduckgo) and found that rarely Restless Leg Syndrome can affect the arms, but I don't think it's that cause i need my hand busy all day long or else i feel very uncomfy. It feels like when you need to stim really bad but a bit worse. It could be a symptom of the H in ADHD, though i don't feel comfortable bringing that up cause my therapists haven't yet talked to me about it, even though they say i have something more than autism, and i suspect it is ADHD. But i'm not self diagnosing im speculating.

I really like to name items. I always have a name for something lol. I named my mole Chloe for some reason and I don’t know why. I named my moms mole Pearl.

Same it’s just a fun thing to do. It makes me happy when I do it. I got a new plush and I named it Shirley.

Welcome Lain! I name things very functionally for some reason. Like in video games I will name things what they are, "Dog, Farm, Island", etc. I've only gone by a couple other usernames online. Tristan is my birth name. Glad you're doing well and close to a diagnosis. It really helped me once I knew too. I do have a collection of fidgets and sometimes chew on my fingers or lips but not often.

Welcome Lain. I also have many names/alias and a disassociative identity disorder to add to the mix (we are 7 and come with a 7 type of OCD lol).

I'm always stimming or I pick my face also. Unfortunately I have hirsutism and face picking often leads to infected follicles. Always got my vape or my crystal egg in my left hand. I've got some crystal balls and a fidget spinner coming in the mail.

Do you have a favourite stimming object/toy?

thanks! when i get the urge to chew i often turn to chewing gum. today for example, i bought several packets so that i can have some for when i feel like i need it, and depending on the intensity of it they last from a few days to a week

OMG LABYRINTH! ok sorry i needed to fanboy for a bit.
I sometimes have dissociative episodes, sometimes they last for months, and in those time i do find that there's more people sharing my body, but i don't think I'll ever get a diagnosis in that area cause it's not noticeable enough. even though i feel them and they all have their own personality and i don't control them. I think it's so good that you got diagnosed for that, cause for me the diagnosis breaks the barrier of "i can't control it/i can cope and live with it" yknow?
i don't trust vapes cause i'm in the process of being diagnosed with asthma, probably not a good idea in my case lmao. the crystal balls are really cool, i used to do the same with my d20's but they're much smaller, and it made my hand hurt after a while.

ohhhh boi i think i wrote a lot here, sorry

Most of the time it's not a huge problem for me, not like movies/tv. I don't like psychiatrists/psychologists trying to dissect my friends so I usually don't talk about it. Sometimes I have whiteouts though and don't know what I've done, get stuck in states of confusion... Otherwise I'm ok...

Oh, d20s are dungeons and dragons dice. They would be fun to stim with, I love the shape!!!

And yes, you're smart to stay away from the vapes. I have more asthma issues with them than when I was on cigarettes. It's an anxiety relief for me

Greetings, @Lain Sarif

Glad to have you with us~

Everyone of us make discoveries every day and it's a nonstop journey to bettering ourselves each day. Hopefully you'll make plenty of friends and find new things while your here~

Yeah i had a psychiatrist tell me that my headmates aren't real, it made one of my alters cry so i just spent half an hour crying outside her office cause his sadness was so intese :( i felt so bad for him. i do have whiteouts but they're very rare, i most often feel like im in the back seat of a car that has all the windows frosted or with raindrops and you can't see much of the outside. i know it flares up in moments of stress, and i know i dont need to have an extremely severe case to have it, it's just that i have never felt validated so i just stopped talking about it. my newest psych does ask about them and treats them with respect, which is nice, but i still feel like i dont deserve to put a name on it. so i just say i have dissociatve episodes and never talk about my headmates.

omg sorry i talk a lot.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! you're so nice, i like this place already haha

@Lain Sarif it's funny, I use the car analogy too. I've usually got a passenger and the rest are in the back just making noise, or I'm the passenger. But sometimes they tie me up and throw me in the boot
