Hi..I'm An

Aspiring Aspie :D

Well...I've got an appointment in a few weeks time to try and find out what's wrong with moi.

But I've been reading about Asperger's and I think that I've got it. I've done an online test where the borderline score was 27-32 and 32+ means aspergers. I got 33. :(

So i think I'm going to be an aspie. Is it a good thing or a bad thing to get diagnosed with aspergers and letting everyone to know ...or is it better to remain quiet about it? But it is definitely the answer I've been looking ..for my strange behavior and attitude.

Also does Aspies tend to have OCD? And what's the difference between aspergers, autism and ADD?

And a question for aspies : What do you think is the major and most obvious sign of your aspergers?

Thanks in Advance :)

Welcome :D

Being an Aspie has it's ups and downs, but just about everyone agrees that they're happier finally knowing what has been going on all this years that they've struggled to fit in.

When it comes to telling others about it, it's generally something you have to decide for yourself. Most people only tell those they trust; family, friends, possibly work.

The difference between Autism and AS; Autism is a condition, which has a rather broad spectrum. Classic Autism is more widely common, and can be more extreme in it's symptoms. Asperger's, or High Functioning Autism, are on the Autism spectrum as well, but are milder in the symptoms. Those with a milder form of autism tend to be more independent, compared to those with classic Autism.

OCD and ADD can be symptoms for those on the Autism spectrum, but not everyone necessarily has these symptoms; everyone differs.

Hope that helps

Hi there!

As Vanilla said, Asperger's really isn't a "one size fits all" sort of deal. OCD and ADD can be comorbid with autism, but it's not something to be assumed.

If there's one thing that I can safely say that we generally have in common, it's that socializing is scary for us. (Not monster-under-the-bed scary---more like "HOLY CRAP! A VELOCIRAPTOR IS ABOUT TO EAT MY FACE!" scary. (And yes, I felt a Jurassic Park reference is appropriate here, for some strange reason.)

First off ...

Secondly, welcome to the community :P I hope you find the answers that your looking for and good luck on diagnosis :D

Welcome.

I don't put too much value in those online test. They are a starting point but that is about it. The most powerful tools, in my opinion, are education and community. By reading and learning about it, you'll get a better idea of your real stiutation ... and education is tightly linked to the community of aspies that will share their experience and thoughts.

I'd not put too much expectation on that Dr. visit ... I've often dealt with all kind of Dr. in my life, there are some excellent ones, but there are also toooons of very bad ones. Hopefully you'll get a good one that will take the time to properly evaluate you and give you the right up to date information. Self-Education will fine tune your "Dr. bullsh*t radar". :)

The most obvious signs of my aspie are in the social interactions. Its really difficult. Also I'm very sensitive to noises. And my anxiety.

As for telling people, I'm in the same boat. I just learned that I might have it few weeks ago. I tried to tell some friends, and mostly, they don't care or think i'm imagining stuff ... The violence of the response made me sad a little bit. So i'd say, yes, try to find someone to talk about it, because it feels good. But pick him/her carefully. My sister responded more positively to what I was saying. So if i feel the need to share something, i can speak to her.

Welcome to the forum aspiring aspie. Do not worry if you are not diagnoised with aspergers, we will still accept you into the fold. We do not judge but support each other. You will probably learn more here than talking to some so called expert.
