Hi, I'm Andrea and I just got my autism diagnosis

English is not my first language, I'm sorry for any mistakes.

So, I just got my autism diagnosis like 4 months ago. But I've been suspecting im autistic for almost 2 years now.
I saw this show, 'Love on the spectrum' and I learned that many women don't get their diagnosis at a young age. So I started digging about it, for mear curiosity, and everything I learned about autism felt a little bit too much like me lol.

Hello and welcome to the forum, Andrea! Glad to hear you finally got some clarity on that with your diagnosis! I hope you enjoy it here. We have all kinds of people with all kinds of interests around here. Feel free to ask for help on anything!

Getting diagnosed probably saved my life. So many confusing and unanswered questions. Damaged relationships, ruined vacations, missed job opportunities, etc. I couldn’t accept that I was incapable of enjoying things like everyone else.

That was 15 years ago. I’m still learning. But knowledge is definitely power. Just keep paying attention to what your body and mind are telling you and don’t allow anyone else’s opinion about what you should do in life have an effect on your day to day decisions. Everyone deserves to be happy. Learning about Autism and how it helps or hurts you will be a gigantic step forward in your life.

Congratulations on your diagnosis! Nobody wants to be different, but this kind of different does have it’s benefits sometimes :)

Welcome!

It's good that you've got an earlier diagnosis as hopefully that'll give you some better awareness of yourself and potentially avoid some issues (especially relationship-wise) that many autistic women experience.

You'll find in the resources section a number of books about autistic girls and womens' experiences which you may find to be helpful (of course there are many internet resources as well).

Hello Andrea. It’s nice to meet you. Your English sounds great for a second language. It can be very hard and challenging to learn a language you are not familiar with. You are doing a great job with studying English. I got my diagnosis at a later age too. I look back at my life and understand so much more about myself. I hope you are able to make new experiences, and are able to make new friends.
