I am a self-diagnosed Aspie. I believe, after all my research, that I have been an Aspie since birth. I am 53 years old and have been diagnosed as depressed, Bipolar 2 with agitated depression, General Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, ADD...........bits and pieces of each of these are correct, however, nothing has "fit" me quite like the Asperger's dx. Like, to a tee! What a relief, really, to know I'm not crazy, just different from other people, unique. The other dx's just seemed to be missing some crucial parts of me, especially the sensory part. Auditory specifically. It also explains why I was ready, daily, to kill my 2 younger brothers who ate Captain Crunch every morning, with their mouths open!!! It also explains why I have such a hard time keeping a job and why all my relationships with friends and spouses (4) have been failures.
I love to read and research things, organize and rearange things, hoard things, hold on to things/relationships with a death grip..........I am an avid crocheter, I have at least 9 or 10 projects going on at the same time. Some I finish, some I don't!! And animals!!!!!! I love animals. I currently have 6: 3 cats and 3 guinea pigs. I'd have dogs too, but my husband, for some strange reason, won't let me have any more pets. What's up with that?!!
Anyhoo............I'm glad to finally have an explanation to why I am who I am........and to embrace my differences rather than feel like I'm bad or nuts. I am also very glad to have found a forum where I can talk to others like me, somewhere I finally fit in.
Here's a question for you all: What types of jobs do you do and what types of jobs are best for Aspies????
Thanks,
Gail
