Hi, My name is Melissa. I am pretty sure I have Aspergers. It would explain so many things! Was told in the past that I didn't but I'm going to get a second opinion because two people who know me very well think I do have it. It feels like I found someone who understands now! So glad to be here. Thank you. :)
 
Welcome to AC, Melissa. Apart from getting a professional diagnosis perhaps you can have that many more questions answered here among us. I've found this place to be a valuable resource in navigating my own autism. I am presently self-diagnosed.

The people responsible for diagnosis have been known to make mistakes, good on you for getting a second opinion.

Always better to get it officially diagnosed..... took me awhile but I did and now im alot better off. =]

Thank you so much everyone! As soon as I get a job with insurance, I will get a second opinion. I just know I fit here. I am so grateful! Nice to meet you all.
 
Hi, Melissa. Did you having any testing done when you were told you didn't have AS? I ask because my psychiatrist doesn't know jack about AS. When I asked her about it, she said she'd have to refer me elsewhere for testing. She didn't feel she was qualified to make any Dx without tests. Sometimes professionals give opinions without doing the necessary analysis though, so the person who told you may be wrong.

Hi Cali Cat,

The professional told me that I had a lot of symptoms but that they were in line with my OCD diagnosis. So, when I get insurance again, I will look for someone experienced in AS. Thanks for your suggestion.

Welcome, Melissa!

I'm very glad you've found us. I agree with Judge that you may find answers here as well as through another doctor. Maybe even more so, as not every doctor is astute in identifying Autism Spectrum Disorders.

I have OCD as well, and I know how it can confuse matters when looking for another diagnosis. There's a lot of overlap. Very frustrating when you're trying to clarify your situation.
