hello, as you can tell by the title i recently joined this website. im currently waiting for my diagnosis, its been in the makings for almost two years so im super stoked to have clarity. i started noticing i was different from others very prominently when i was in my senior year of high school, ever since then ive been constantly researching about autism. youtube, google, textbooks, instagram, and tiktok have been used to help me navigate and learn more about myself. im currently twenty so its been a little while since ive had the money and insurance to go through with getting help. im just looking for someone to be friends with and relate too, ive felt so alone for so long so i thought joining this forum would help :)

Welcome!

I've also enjoyed delving into books on the topic, whether they be memoirs or guides written by those on the spectrum, or by professionals and care providers.

You'll find that most of the members most of the time here are pretty friendly.

thank you! yes, that is me in my profile photo. i wasn't sure to put an animal of sorts, but i figured maybe showing a photo of myself might look more approachable to be friends with. judging by your response it worked! thank you so much, i never knew forums like this existed i love how welcoming everyone has been so far!

Welcome @madisen622 . you will certainly find people with many different life experiences here. It is good that you are getting clarification now.

I was diagnosed at age 60 and I started understanding a lot about myself. I grew up at a time when autism was rarely diagnosed, and with my intelligence people thought I was normal and my social deficits were choices (not). As a result my teen and young adult years were spent socially isolated. I was able to mature socially, yet that isolation left scars and I am in therapy for PTSD from it.

You are in good company for finding answers and there are many strong accepting people here to assist you.

i agree, im hoping i feel the same way you did when you got diagnosed. unfortunately people can be extremely inconsiderate and rude, im sorry to hear the effects it had on you. i hope things will get better for you. i appreciate all the support ive gotten so far, it's really comforting to understand im not alone.

Just as everybody with autism is different, our responses to the difficulties created by our neurology are quite varied. Every one has persevered in one way or another to put together a decent life. Yet, there are some here caught in a "groundhog day" of dysfunction who refuse to change. Some very strong and kind people you have already interacted with. With your diagnosis I hope that you can use the information to grow to be your best self.

Welcome and you seem pretty easy going with a lot of great interests.

Is your guy autistic also? I have discovered my best bosses were on the spectrum. We understand each other, they knew instinctively they could depend on me.

Hello and welcome to you, too! I'm new here additionally.

It's great that you've been reflecting and using social media to relate to, and identify, your autism. I wish I'd known I was autistic at your age--it's taken me almost thirty years to find out what has been going on with me.

I'm hoping you'll like it here! So far I've found this place to be safe and helpful.
