Hi I'm karl I know I am an aspie but my.fiancee would like a formal diagnosis to help her understand and I kind of would as well so I can say that I am a aspie with out any doubt just wondering how you guys went about it as I'm really anxious and scared tbh I have alot of traits and did score high on a test on an aspie website just someone to talk to would be great

Welcome Karl :)

You'll find that we have a mix of different members here. Some are diagnosed, while others remain self-diagnosed. Whether or not you feel the need to obtain a disgnoses is up to you. Some people obtain a disgnoses, so that they may receive special benefits, while others obtain one so that they may find closure.

I would like to recommend a few links, which you may find useful.

Hi and welcome! where are you from? The process for getting a diagnosis is probably different dependant upon which country you live in. I am currently undergoing diagnosis, have had all the "assessment" sessions and am just waiting for the psychologists' report.

I went about it (in the UK) by going to my GP with a pre-prepared list of symptoms I see in myself, and simply handed it over (because i was very anxious) the GP read it and told me he'd refer me to the local Asperger's organisations. 3 weeks later I had my first appointment with them.

Hey thanks that's great in in North East (newcastle) and very anxious I really wanted to write everything down but I didn't.know if that would be accepted that's a massive help thanks I going to make an appointment for tomorrow I'm gonna writ everything down I have been debating about going for about 2 year and now I think I can do it

It might be worth doing some research to see if there is a dedicated aspergers or autism group in your county which do assessments with referral from GPs. In Norfolk there is Aspergers East Anglia who have done my assessment. The GP I saw had never referred an adult before and so appreciated that I came with the referral form so he didn't have to do any research. If there's not it will probably just go through normal NHS channels.
