Hi, I'm Stefanos, and I'm new here. I'm a youthful 66 and an academic librarian. My primary work duty is collection development and cataloging (shocker!). I'm new to the Aspie world. Although I've known about the autism spectrum for several years, I never dreamed that it might apply to me until I began reading books and articles about it. I'm self-diagnosed, having taken several online tests and have discussed autism quite a bit with my wife, who concurs.

Your neurodiverse (Aspie) score: 166 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 69 of 200
You are very likely neurodiverse (Aspie)

I look forward to exploring this site and maybe meeting some of you. Some of my interests are Buddhism, I Ching, reading nonfiction of all sorts, keeping a journal, craft beer, and psychology. Learning about the autism spectrum has answered a million questions for me -- questions about why I've spent decades feeling so "abnormal" and struggling with issues of social interaction. I look forward to learning more -- it's an exciting time.

Hi stefanos108 Welcome to Central. I went on a bit of a self-education journey with my ASD too, once I'd come to terms with my diagnosis a bit. Reading a lot of texts & interacting on here, all helped me accommodate myself & my ASD & subsequently others & my relations with them too. All the best. :)

Thanks so much. So many past experiences suddenly make sense when I consider them in light of ASD. I've always had trouble with "theory of mind" in understanding others' motives and emotions. One can treat others with kindness, but one needs interaction with others on so many different levels. And, too often I am simply uncomprehending -- I don't really understand humans very well, and I always felt like an outsider. Add to that, we were constantly moving from place to place, and I was plopped into a completely different country and culture at the age of nine. ... Thanks for the welcome. Great to be here.

Welcome to the site Stefanos! There's a good amount of information here written by Aspies for Aspies and people who want to know more. Good luck.

Hi & Welcome
Sounds like a great Aspie job!
I would recommend tech services to an Aspie. I love it, creating and managing MARC records -- love the detail. I've been doing it for 29 years and was always dumbfounded when people, even other librarians, would stare at me horrified when they learned of my job. A guy handed it off to me, and no one's ever wanted to take it.

I need to learn about how the site and community work -- right now, I'm a stranger in a strange land. I'm sure there are some interesting blogs to follow. Hope I'll have a clue sooner rather than later. Thanks!

Welcome aboard :)

"Thich Nhat Hanh explains that sangha is more than a community, it’s a deep spiritual practice.
...

A sangha is a community of friends practicing the dharma together in order to bring about and to maintain awareness. The essence of a sangha is awareness, understanding, acceptance, harmony and love. When you do not see these in a community, it is not a true sangha, and you should have the courage to say so. But when you find these elements are present in a community, you know that you have the happiness and fortune of being in a real sangha."

Thank you all for the super welcome.
