Hi everybody! My name is Ronnie and I have a 3 year old boy that has autism. He likes to nibble on walls and I don't know how to stop him from nibbling on the walls. Any suggestions on how I can stop him from doing that?

What have you done in terms of finding better choices for what he nibbles on?

It seems as if this may be a "stimming"-type of behavior and for whatever reason, he discovered the walls, as opposed to a toy or something else. If he's one to "stim" like this, and you aren't likely to stop it any time soon, then obviously, a safer alternative needs to be found. An infant teething ring, perhaps.

Without getting into all the neurochemistry of autism and why some people have these stimming behaviors and others not, do understand, as a parent, you don't have much control over it. He's going to stim. It is what it is. Some people do it as adults. Some kids do it for years, then stop. Who knows what the future holds, but be careful not to discipline him for it, as it will only backfire and he will do it more. The best you can do at his age is give him something to nibble on that is far more satisfying and pleasing (in his mind) than the walls.
