Hi everyone,
I'm recently retired and even more recently a self-diagnosed Aspergirl. Imagine my surprise to finally have discovered this and all it entails. I welcome this board and its all of its resources, but have to admit I'm more than a little OVERWHELMED! Wow, so now I can't stop reading about it, but have to walk away for a day or so now and then.

Thanks to all who enable this board.

Aspie@60: Welcome to Aspie Central.

It is ok if you take a bit of time away you have a lot to process at the moment. Just feel free to drop in from time to time while you catch. I have found it to be a big support group, every one tries to help each other.

May be you should catch up with MoCoffee and start a seniors section

Welcome!

You know, your post reminds me that I really need to get serious about my blog, which I decided to call The Aspergirl Chronicles. :P

Hi!
My psychiatrist came close to giving me a diagnosis of Asperger's but stopped short because my "empathy" traits were too neurotypical. That's okay, I'm still pretty sure I am. For example, certain tones of voice and enunciation irritate the CRAP out of me. I often find myself rocking and clicking my teeth to a particular cadence. I have marked musical and verbal ability, but score much lower in other domains. When I was a child, I found certain clothing textures to be downright painful and I couldn't bear sudden loud noises. (By the way, I'm nearly 55, and though I've adapted a public persona, in private I allow these traits to come out.) And the ones I've listed are but a few examples. What sort of traits do you have?

Hey! Yea, docs and professionals who aren't neurologically or neuro biologically effected with certain issues. Often miss or won't diagnose us because of our ability to "act" so well. And express certain things like empathy. When we do actually still have it. That happens the most with females. But, if someone's learned how to do that well enough I don't care what sex they are, they fool many.

My biggest most obvious challenges to NT's are sensory, getting exhausted quickly, and food related. But, I have many others too. There just a lot less obvious to most people, esp, NT's, I don't know much or aren't comfortable around.

Hey Sam! Take your time to get to know the site and don't worry about needing to take some time away to process what you read. I'm just glad you found us. Feel free to ask questions. The people here tend to be very open and supportive.

In response to that, thanks grandma Aspie! That's very sweet of you. Now I wish I got better at reply to other peoples posts in one reply. Any suggestions?

Here you go: Social awkwardness from a very young age and continuing to present; Inability to keep friends (one even told me at age 12 that she didn't want to be best friends with me anymore -- I wasn't one of the "popular' girls); Open resistance to social norms (i.e., exchanging Christmas gifts with everybody, even the ones I didn't like and that didn't like me). Very particular about clothing, specifically resisted uncomfortable or binding clothes. We had to wear skirts to school back then, but much preferred loose clothing; Current symptoms include an inability to focus on any one project for any length of time; Do you find yourself starting one project then following rabbit trails for an entire day and ultimately completing nothing? The list goes on, but I think I've run out of space . . .
