Hi folks, I'm 45 and from the UK. Married with 2 kids, one of whom is close to a formal AS diagnosis. It was only when going through all the material for my son that my wife and I realised I'm almost certainly AS too. It has explained a lot - such as meltdowns, aversion to noises, obsessiveness and the like. I can read expressions, understand metaphors and all sorts of other things not typical of AS, but I'm starting to understand there is no such thing as typical AS.
On one hand I'm pleased to find an explanation for elements of my behaviour, but as it's still early I'm definitely a little shocked by it all, not least because I find myself examining every interaction with people differently. My wife has been understanding, and it helps with my AS son too to have a common journey.
I've found some of the threads on here hugely useful, so thanks.
Look forward to speaking to you soon.
