Hi everyone, thanks so much for the join. I have had problems with social interaction for as long as I can remember, find it difficult maintaining friendships and relationships and feel "alien" sometimes... looking to try and obtain a formal diagnosis from my GP in Scotland.

Hi Francis Stephen, welcome. I hope you find useful ideas and information here, there's plenty to read and respond to. (Hey no idea what Fridgemagnetman means let me know if you ever work it out! ) This is a friendly and easy-going place, and many of us are socially challenged, it seems fairly core to autism. Diagnosis is a choice that may be useful to some, or some people self diagnose over time, that's what I have done, there are also some good on line tests that can be helpful indicators, links to some are posted on various threads here, and the ARC site has a lot of tests and articles for example , you may have done some already.
