Hi, my name is Kayla, I am twenty years old and have just got my diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (which is not a option on this site for your diagnosis) a couple of months ago. My mom originally tried to get me diagnosed when I was five but the specialists could not agree on a diagnosis and as a result I got none but was able to receive some extra help in school when it was required with the reports from my testing, so my mom didn't worry about fighting for a diagnosis. When I left highschool though there was no support for me and getting a job seemed impossible so we fought to get me back in for testing and finally got a diagnosis. They no longer use the term aspergers, PDD, PDD-NOS, or high functioning autism in my area anymore for the exact reason that I did not get a diagnosis when I was younger, no one could agree on what symptoms belonged where and often people who needed it would walk away without a diagnosis so they combined it all into a the umbrella of ASD. Now though we are trying to find support in my area and are running into dead ends everywhere.
