Hi!

Dark matter

New Member
Hello! I will try to keep this fairly short as I have a tendency to ramble
My name is Jason, my friends call me Jay.

I am 41 and I was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome in 2014, my report also says that as well as meeting the formal diagnostic criteria for AS, i also have dyspraxia and features of dyslexia and dyscalculia (all those dyses!) before I was diagnosed I have on my records that I have depression, anxiety, possible ADD and BPD, it seems at the time my psychiatrist did not think this could all be down to Asperger syndrome, she was unable to give me a specific name to whatever conditions I may have so she said I was a mixed bag! Now I have the AS diagnosis i wonder if if all of those other things I have is down to that or if they are separate problems.

My mum quickly noticed there was something different about me but back in the 70's I don't think there was much awareness of autism and she was just told she is an over anxious mum and that I will catch up at my own pace. When I was about 7 or 8 we moved from Wales to where I live now on the south coast of England and I started primary school, it was there where someone else noticed I was different, the headmaster of the school. My mum had deliberately chose not to mention anything about me just to see if someone else would pick up on it, and they did, so I got lumped with the term learning disability and I had my own special needs teacher, then I was in and out of mainstream school and sort of a hospital for kids with learning disabilities, them what I call the nut house although officially it was a hospital for adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems.

My special interests include geosciences (specifically mineralogy) although the whole subject of geology interests me. astronomy, nature/wildlife and aviation, and lately I have become increasing obsessed with atoms, elements and photons!
I also enjoy composing music and playing it on my keyboard.

Welcome!
Love your username as astronomy and dark matter are some of my special interests too.
I watch all the documentaries I can on these cosmology subjects. Absolutely fascinated by it.

Nature/ wildlife and rocks are special interests too.
So we have some things in common.
I'm also into medicine, psychology and metaphysics.

I also grew up a "mixed bag" diagnosis child.
Because I didn't have learning difficulties, in fact it can go just the opposite and have a very high IQ, I was labeled anxiety disorder and depression with a bit of OCD.
I've lived a life without anyone speaking of AS as a possible cause until two years ago, despite having no social skills.
A grief counseling social worker finally picked up on traits that led her to suspect AS high functioning and suggested I get tested. And voila.
Now you know my story a bit, and again, Welcome!

Hi Susan thank you for the welcome and the introduction it seems we do have a few things in common, when you say rocks did you specifically mean rock or is that just a general term for rocks and minerals? Some people do say rock when they mean mineral and its just one of those little things that kind of make me go of on one!
Also like me i see that you have been diagnosed later in your life, I am going to start a new thread about this subject as I am interested to find out if after getting a diagnosis how has that affected their lives, are people getting the support they need and how easy it is for people to access any services available to support people on the spectrum.

Welcome to ASPIESCentral. :)

Since you're interested in atoms, elements and photons, I was wandering if you have any views on Quantum entanglement, this particularly fascinates me since it totally defies the laws of physics as we know them because particles appear to interact at unlimited distances apart, it also seems to be instant and "communication" between the particles isn't therefore restricted by the speed of light, in fact I quoted the word "communication" since there isn't any known particles or medium being passed between them to communicate, instead time and space itself seems to be defied.

The first news story is about quantum entanglement.

Quantum mechanics is not something I know a great deal about, although I do find it fascinating, and also exiting. I see it as our future to learn more about stuff like this, especially concerning space exploration. we can only go so far using our technological knowledge because even though the materials we use may be ever improving it's still really rather archaic, and it doesn't matter how heat resistant or how strong and lightweight it is, even if we could find an unlimited power source if it has mass then we are stuck here!

Hello! Welcome! I am also new to this place. I love astronomy, nature/wildlife and are also composing music! Hey, hallo!!!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Vangelis, are you actually Vangelis or a fan? I am also a fan of Vangelis and also Jean Michelle Jarre, and Pink Floyd!

Yes, rocks and minerals. A general term. I have a strong interest in both the pure mineral proporties and the mix and formation of rocks as such, so it is my collection interest.

That will be an interesting thread on later in life diagnosis. I would like to know what led many of us to be diagnosised later in life also. Someone's suggestion to get a diagnosis or a life event perhaps?
I have found no access to any services or support for adults here.

I am a Vangelis fan also.
The interest in dark matter and @pjcnet referring to quantum entanglement another interesting subject as it defies laws of physics brought to mind the Vangelis song Albedo 0.39. I love that whole album. His voice is
superb with great subject matter.

One of my middle names is Evangelos and I would certainly love to have his talent, I am a big fan of his. Also like JMJ and Tangerine Dream.

The one song I know most from Tangerine dream is the theme tune to Street Hawk, actually it might be the only one I know. I shall now be investigating!
