Hi.

Hi. I'm John. I'm not sure if I'm autistic or not; I just fit a lot of the symptoms, and scored a 42 on the AQ test, so I figured I'd look into it more. I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with me for about as long as I can remember; I even thought I might be a vampire once because I fit the symptoms; crossed that possibility off the list when I was fourteen. I'm twenty-three now.

Hi John welcome. Yes that puzzlement is familiar to me and sounds like a clue. At least you are here at 23 already whereas many don't work out their autism til later. There's plenty of useful information and threads to read and respond to here. Enjoy!

Does anyone know if there's a surefire way to tell? Like, could a neurologist take a picture of my brain and conclude that it's an autistic brain, or does an autistic brain look just the same as a normal brain? I understand there's some genetic markers, but I'm not sure how to go about finding them or who to see about that. I just hate not knowing, and want to either confirm it, or cross it off the list of possibilities. Apparently the Hamilton Family Tree has ancestral connections to Norse Gods like Thor and Odin; Beowulf is also on the Family Tree on my dad's side. So's Bloody Mary haha. ...Lot of gods and monsters, soldiers and kings. Looking at my bloodline, it doesn't seem surprising that I'd end up being a little...weird.

Kinda ties into another theory my mom suggested; that I'm an alien being incarnated into a human being/that I was an alien in my past life or something and it carried over. She's kind of weird too. I'm not sure if I believe that, but she taught me about Indigo Children and so I got a book on it that has a list of characteristics common among indigos, and I matched almost every single one; felt kind of eerie reading that book; like someone had been peeking in on my life.

...I kinda brushed that off as a possibility too though; along with vampirism lol. A characteristic of both is somewhat extrasensory abilities, but I like to think that there's a more scientific reasoning behind why I can do the things I can do; it's easier for me to wrap my head around science than it is for me to wrap my head around gods and magic and all that mumbo jumbo. Which brings me to my most current theory: My ordinary five senses are much more sensitive than most people's, and the result is that the combination of my five enhanced senses, end up creating a "sixth sense" to some degree. Part of it could be that I'm good at recognizing patterns, and that perhaps my subconscious mind is always looking for patterns throughout life without my consciously even knowing it, occasionally flinging important things from my subconscious to my conscious mind, resulting in what might appear to be premonitions, other times more just a gut feeling, sometimes making my hairs stand up on end. Many animals in the wilderness seem to have a similar response. A similarity between them and me happens to be that our senses are usually more heightened than a normal human's. At the DMV for example I was getting my driver's permit and had to do an eye test. I was able to read every single line from top to bottom without trying too hard; in high school I was put into a..."special" school or something weird like that; some building separate of the highschool building yet still technically part of the high school....that's a whole other discussion. But anyway, they ran a bunch of tests on my vision and hearing and concluded that I had 20/10 vision. Most people whom I tell that to seem to think that's a bad score; they think that 20/20 vision is considered "perfect" vision and that somehow vision can't get anymore acute than that. Anyway....I'm sure you probably know that 20/10 means that what most people can only see at ten feet away, I can see at twenty feet away, which means that my eyesight is twice as powerful as most people.

....I don't even know how they measure hearing, but they had me listen to a bunch of stuff through some headphones for a while including the usual beeps/tones of varying volumes. Went on for quite a while; she appeared to be getting frustrated. Not sure if that was good or bad. I was tired and just wanted to get out of there though so I was pretty much on autopilot.
