I've made a few posts already, but until now forgot to make an introduction thread, so here goes.
I'm Mel. I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome by my mom at age 16. Four years prior, we'd moved to Minnesota, which is pretty much the most social and yet xenophobic place in the world, where everyone is expected to fit in (and often forced into socialization, conformity and group activities) and my symptoms had since manifested. (We're moving away soon because the people here are attacking us for not agreeing with them on everything and my parents can't get anything done with them breathing down their necks. That's kind of a long story.) Even as a kid, before I knew what was going on with me, I'd always felt and known I was somehow different from everyone else. I've never fit in anywhere. I've learned a few social skills from being forced to socialize here, but I'm still rather bad at it.
I've recently discovered (by myself) that I also have synesthesia, which is pretty cool. I've been aware of my colors for my whole life but never knew there's a name for them until now.
I've been on two other Aspie forums, but one pretty much died after a while and the other had too much drama and narrow-mindedness so I'm going to try this one out.
