Hi!

Hey! I'm Eben. I'm 27 and I just got an official autism diagnosis on Monday. It's pretty weird (but also a relief) to be finally diagnosed as an adult.

I'd thought I might be autistic for a while, and tried a couple of years ago to pursue a diagnosis, but I filled out one of those questionnaires and my doctor said he didn't think a test was necessary (loool!) Anyway, during lockdown my autistic behaviours became more intrusive. I was stimming and ticking a lot more than usual and ruminating a lot so decided to try again and the doctor put me through for an assessment. My result came through on Monday and there you go! :fearful:

Not sure what happens next but I'm trying to better understand my behaviours and what I struggle with, and I'd like to learn better ways of handling situations I find difficult. I still ruminate a lot so am gonna try some journaling. I think as a teenager I remember that helping to empty my head a bit.

Now that I know I'm not neurotypical, I don't beat myself up so much for struggling more than other people. My friend sent me this comic. It's for ADHD but I felt like it pretty much summed up my experience, so thought some of you might enjoy it.

Anyway, not much else to say really! I live in Scotland, I'm very friendly, and haven't been on a forum since I was like 13 but this one seems nice! Nice to meet you all!

Hi @Eben and welcome! I joined recently too. Everyone is quite friendly. You will find a lot of interesting conversations and people here.

Hello!! I'm new here too and the same age as you. Welcome!
Seems like this is a pretty friendly place and I hope you'll feel at home here!

Hello & welcome @Eben.

See if Scotland has an autism association* and ask their recommendations for an autism-competent counselor (not all counselors are).

*I found these two,

Thanks! These look helpful. I've been offered some follow-up sessions to talk through the diagnosis, and some group sessions with other ppl with a late diagnosis. I might take it up but not decided when yet!

Welcome, and you are at an age where you now also have the skills and life experience to enjoy yourself. Not diagnosed until 60, but at your age I was rebuilding myself and started to enjoy life, and I had to do that alone.
