Hi

Azul

Well-Known Member
Hello. I'm a (soon) 30s female. I created this account to possibly reach out and to try to make sense of things.

After researching about social issues, I somehow ended reading about aspergers and saw, little by little, that it fit a few of my characteristics.

I'm uncertain of it. I got a 67 on my first Ritvo test and, if I'm not mistaken, 64 on the second. In the Aspie Quiz I got "strong NT traits" and "strong ASD traits" at the same time*. In the Girls Questionnaire I got 24 (threshold is 23). It seems my main difficulties lie in the social aspect, but I do recognize a few other less intense difficulties (46 on social relatedness and 5 in language in the first Ritvo test, and a spike on the social indicator the Aspie Quiz).

*Edit: I must make a correction. That wasn't from the Aspie Quiz, as I thought. Either I remembered it wrong or it's from another test. My most recent AQ was "You have both broader autism cluster and neurotypical traits", with 88 ASD and 103 NT scores.

Of the social, what most depresses me is trying to approach a few people I get emotionally invested in, including in the platonic sense, and not being able to forge a connection, even when they have displayed small signs of affection before, which I usually don't answer quickly or appropriately enough. When I do make something it is already too late.

I don't know if that's because I'm in the spectrum or not - even writing that feels so weird... kind of "otherworldly"*... but a number of small stuff fit the description. At first I wrote a big text - but is there a subcategory in the Private Forum where it would be appropriate to post it to try to make sense of my suspicion? (It's a long text and I'd like some privacy.)

*I mean no offense. It's just a little shocking, even if it's only a suspicion. When I got a score of 67 I was more or less dubious, but when I read that of the 779 tested people in the original research, all of those (if the information is right) who got 65+ were on the spectrum I was... dumbstruck, perhaps? Anyway, all the tests I took were either near the threshold (above or below) or moderately below. The results are confusing.

Hello and welcome! There's a number of tests available for general assessments - AQ being a common proxy. As you've probably read already, how the spectrum presents in women can be quite different from how it presents in men, though of course there are many commonalities in general.

Anyways, the community here is open to all comers - those on the spectrum, those who are questioning, along with friends, family and allies. :-)

Hi Azul, I like your username! :)
Welcome! Hope you enjoy it here and stick around. We're friendly!

Bienvenida Azul! :)

Those tests were set with just male autists and there are way too many diferences between male and women in the spectrum.

If you happen to speak spanish I can pass you some YouTube links of ASD1 spanish speaking girls so you can see if you feel identified or not.

HI @Azul and Welcome to the Forums

Do have a look around at the older posts and see if anything of what others have written jives with you as how you are. It might help you understand yourself

Thank you all for the warm welcome! :)

Bienvenida Azul! :)

Thank you. Actually, I speak Portuguese (I'm from Brazil).

Hi and welcome, I hope that you enjoy it here. There's no actual cut off point I guess apart from individual decisions by clinicians as to who exactly is or isn't deemed to merit diagnosis, and you quote difficulties with what's a very central issue for most here, social communication difficulties. Perhaps if you identify with aspects of this, you can start to look for ideas and strategies that can help, rather than feel mystified and stuck at not finding progress to change and be more typical. It's good that you are here.
