Hi

Mattymatt

Imperfectly Perfect
I'm 37 and I was just diagnosed High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder this week. I'm hoping to learn from others on here. The diagnosis came as no surprise, I long since suspected as much. Now, I just want to pick up the pieces of my life and try to live some degree of normalcy.

Hello there and welcome to your new world of discovery. What is normal anyways, but routine. Happy, peaceful and healthy are worthy goals. With some patience and a little work, you should be able to make some good progress.
This is a good place to be with a lot of great people. Hang around and you will learn much.
Good Luck.

Thank you for the welcome. I'm also reeling from a break-up with my girlfriend. She couldn't handle my diagnosis despite being fully aware of my quirks. I reckon things will get better.

The sun ALWAYS comes up tomorrow. The best way to deal with depression is to understand that it is internal only, and that it (like everything else) does not last. Remember that your feelings are only real to you, and they are not an accurate representation of how things really are, just how you perceive them at the moment.
Sometimes you are dying for an ice cream cone, and other times the thought of it is detestable. It is still the same ice cream.
Hang In There.

Welcome, Matt! This forum is full of helpful people, so I have no doubt that you'll find guidance here.

Welcome :)

I recommend also taking a look at our recommended readings section, for books on AS. Many of our members will agree that Dr.Tony Attoowd's books, and advice, is a good place to begin: Resources | AspiesCentral.com
