HIGHER EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

HI @AFAF

you might consider changing the title of the post to make it clear that you are doing a survey and are looking for participants. There are a number of survey requests in the forum so try searching to see what others have done.

Fluorescent lights need to go away for all eternity. It's the sound and the light itself. I'm not a fan of LED either but they don't give me headaches like florescent.

Te only thing thst disturbs me is classroms is if it's too hot. But it also disturbs neurotypicals.
Sensory issues are the symptom I almost don't have. I have only poor social skills and obsessions.

Literal thinker that I am, Higher Education should mean classes held on the moon.

But not how we imagine it now. I would like it designed how we imagined it in the 50's and 60's. It looked much cooler then.

That's what you get for using the word Biophilic.

;)

I never liked fluorescents, but I took a job in a shop that used them anyway. After a fortnight, I realized that they were no problem. So, I grabbed a ladder and read the labels. We were making signs, and had to do coulour-matching, so the lights were full-spectrum. They cost about double at the time.
LEDs also depend on phosphors to give a good white light, and the makers seem more willing to use an expensive, premium mix, but there's no guarantees if not written specifically.

I don't qualify for the survey, but living in a new, high-rise student dorm was crazy making. Generally, I prefer old, ivy-growing buildings for a campus. A window with a view of trees really helps with the tedium. Lots of options for getting time away from other people would be dandy.

Hi!

I looked at the intro page and didn't proceed further as there doesn't appear to be any information about
* your academic affiliation
* your supervisor
* if the study had been cleared by your university
* where and how the information is being stored

These are all pretty standard elements for academic research surveys.

The problem with that rationale is
when you are on the moon,
it is down and Earth is higher...!

Hello, Thank you for you suggestion. Would you please let me know how I can do that?

You'd need to contact a moderator.

Meanwhile, would you like to address my concerns perhaps?

For all I know, you could be looking to scrape and retain (and potentially sell) data for non-academic (e.g. businness) purposes and I find your lack of transparency to be rather concerning.

Hello,

As a designer I believe that education is for everyone and that a higher education environment should be inclusive. This is why I am researching the impact of interior design elements on autistic students.

your experience is valuable and your needs should be met while designing a learning space.

Please participate in my survey to make sure your voices are heard: THE ROLE OF BIOPHILIC DESIGN IN ENHANCING HIGHER EDUCATION SPACES FOR AUTISTIC STUDENTS
You can't fake nature. Maybe this world needs more pavilions and dirt paths and less streets and buildings.

If I had my way we'd go back to the Esterbrook fountain pen and the Underwood typewriter, and classrooms would be airy, lighted just well enough to see the board, and basically the opposite of feeling like interrogation chambers.

Online classes are a godsend too. Especially since I don't have to interact as much with people.

First thing I did with design department when I changed employers years ago change their florescent lights to chroma 50s to prevent metamerism. I changed my home lighting to LED daylight. not soft white

The problem with LED lights is that they are tiny high speed strobe lights that flash so rapidly that most people don't even notice but for some of us, it's quite noticeable and distracting and sometimes causes headaches for me.

everybody has their own thing I just dislike the red cast incandescent lights have having spent my career working with colour metameric matched bother me clothing for example.
