my name is heather and i'm 22 aaaand as of right this moment, i'm a self diagnosed aspie.
i've never received a diagnosis when i was younger mostly because my parents were of the mind frame that everything i did was just a phase or just some weird little quirk, and then as i got older, it turned into them basically questioning why i acted like such a baby because some of the limitations i have, like i can't talk on the phone and i don't like going to crowded places on my own, i can't drive on certain roads because of the vibrations, things like that. i mean, being 22 and still having to have your mom make phone calls for you is hard for most people to understand, and it's not because i don't want to, it's that i literally cannot. i'm also teased because of the way i handle food. i'm very limited in my food choices because i have a thing with certain textures, which gets a lot of 'if you'd only try it, you'd like it!' no matter how many times i repeat myself that you have no idea how much i would love to eat certain things, but can't. not the best feeling.
i want to get an official diagnosis to help better understand myself and to help others to understand me a bit better, but i have to wait for a bit, because i'm still not sure on where to go and also because of a lack of health insurance. mostly, i don't want to be accused of fishing for something if i come in with an idea. i research everything and people always think it's just me reading a lot and making vague connections between what i read and things in real life, and that's not the case at all. it's nerve wracking and so i'm not quite sure what to do there.
HOWEVER, i'm starting to see what a great community there is for autistic people and it'll be neat to talk to others that are like me! i'm extremely interested in computers and am in college right now for web development. i like to code things and make things in photoshop in my spare time. i'm also obsessed with rats! i have seven of them and they are my babies. ummm not sure what else to add... i love music. my favorites right now are the horrors and danny boyle's frankenstein soundtrack. i'm slightly obsessed with bbc sherlock and doctor who as well.
anyway! that's it for my introductory novel!
