Do you have meltdowns in certain situations?
If so, how are you affected by them?
(e.g. do you have violent or loud outbursts? Do you withdraw and internalize everything?)
I don't have meltdowns often any more, as I've developed some coping strategies, but when I do they can go one of two ways, or both (depending on the situation.)
I usually 1) go silent and boil inside emotionally (that's the best description I can think of) or 2) get very upset and lose control of my emotions and verbal filter.
For example:
Once, while staying at a hotel with my twin brother (who also has AS), he kept pestering me (in a very offensive way, I might add) about wiggling my feet. I stopped because I didn't want him to get upset, but would inadvertently start again a few minutes later. This went on for two days, and by the end we were both very upset over this trivial matter. Finally, he snapped and started yelling and cursing at me. This sent me into a meltdown and I started yelling at him too. He tried to slap me so I slapped him across the face and broke his nose. Afterwards, I felt terrible and withdrew under a bridge down the road for about four hours.
