I thought I would ask you guys a question how do you feel about dolphins in captivity? I personally hat it because they're surrounded by tones of people and they're in small pools but I don't mind this place Clearwater Marine Aquarium | CMA inspires passion to respect and protect our marine life and environment for future generations. because at least they are keeping them there because they cant live in the wild.

I don't like it either, especially after seeing the documentaries The Cove (this one will be really upsetting to people who love dolphins :( ) and Blackfish (the latter is about orcas, but a lot of the stuff in it probably also applies to dolphins in captivity).

I agree that captivity is not the best place for them. They're not like dogs which have been domesticated for thousands of years (and even dogs suffer from millions of well-meaning human owners who don't understand dog or animal psychology)

Some people dislike the film Blackfish because it attacks Sea World which is actually better than most other places that have such animals. However, properly understood, Blackfish is not so much against Sea World in particular, as against captivity of such animals in general.
However, for animals that have spent their whole lives in captivity, there might not be a perfect solution. SImply putting them back into the wild without an acclimation to and education in a wild lifestyle might not work as well as one might wish.

I don't mind animals in captivity so long as their needs are met. I know they have to be in pens and cages, but I'd rather they be in properly sized pens and cages. My husband was telling me of one place that boxed in a nice chunk of the sea so their marine animals had room to stretch out and relax.

Of course, another thing that Blackfish points out is that keeping orcas in captivity is bad for humans too, the documentary begins by discussing an incident where an orca killed a trainer at Sea World and includes some pretty harrowing footage where another orca nearly drowns its trainer.

No animal should be in captivity, I am even unable to have a dog because I'd rather see dogs live freely like wolves. On the other hand, it is required for our evolution to strip them from their freedom either for scientific purpouses or alimentary ones, but they should never be imprisoned for our fun.

Sometimes I feel like humans are in captivity. I don't just mean prisons, I mean schools and worklaces, and stuff. I'm not saying such stuff shouldn't exist; but it is a lot like captivity.

so true what if autistic people are just dolphins trapped in human bodies?

some animals do fine in captivity while some don't like for example fish do fine because they like to stay in small places wile larger creatures like dolphins don't because they enjoy wide open spaces. or horses in stables.

Some animals even have more pleasant lives with longer lifespans in captivity, like cats. The interesting thing with cats is that they, more than any other captive animal, are allowed to roam around and do whatever they want. I can't think of any other domestic or captive animal that has the kind of freedom of most pet cats.

Dolphins, or whales for that matter, should not be kept in tanks. They are creatures that roam large areas in large numbers, they need that freedom.
I had the pleasure I encountering a pod of dolphins whilst sailing with friends, it was one of the most uplifting and joyful moments in my life.

Whereas my cat, well, if I open the door she just raises her royal head as if to say 'There's a draft!'
