Purses and I have a long and contentious history.

Being female, it is expected. I have friends (of different sexes) who always buy pants with pockets and use minimal wallets and generally wind up festooning their belts with cell phones and other items; the Batman move.

I can't do that. It would annoy the heck out of me.

So I pared down my "purse load" and got a delightful purse from Kipling.

Sturdy, pretty, room for everything... kinda. I had scaled everything so perfectly I add a few receipts and one extra pillbox and such and then things have to be wrestled in and out. Now my iPad mini, which is just right in the back section, really does have to be wrestled in and out. In my job as a roving blogger, it's like my administrative assistant, I need it around so much.

Now the whole thing weighs as much as a medieval battle axe.

I could throw my purse in a tote, because if I am bringing lunch or presentation materials that is what I wind up doing, only now I have basically a giant purse I can't find anything in! The wrestling increases.

So I went back to my highschool years, where I liked wearing a backpack. I was wearing backpacks before backpacks were cool! Because I rode my bike everywhere. It has always been such a struggle to find a purse that works for me.

So now I got this:

It has pockets for everything I need to get at on the outside, and on the inside will be my purse, so I can grab it, put in what I need, and have a small (and light) option again.

This is a work in progress, but so far I am very pleased. It is the size of a tote, but much easier to carry and much easier to find things in.

I just can't be normal. No matter how hard I try ;)

I find the bigger the bag the more I'm tempted to carry more stuff.
The old 'i may need this' mindset creeps in.
Do i *really* need an emergency kit? Bag of safety food, hand sanitiser, pack of tissues, various notebooks, variety of pens, back up sunglasses... no. I *need* my keys.

I do have my moments where i put things in pockets and go hands free and feel like i forgot something for the whole time I'm out...

I prefer mid sized long strap bag so essentially hands free but with enough room to indulge in a couple of safety items.

I was using a backpack a couple of years ago all the time. I use a handbag (purse) the vast majority of the time now, not because it's easier but rather because I'm easily drawn in by a nice handbag :D

This is my current one. It actually really awkward to find anything in it, because there's a zipped pocket inside on the back, and two smaller ones (no zips) on the front inside...but other than that, it's just one big bag. I love it to bits, but I do sometimes think I should just go back to the backpack.

i have two bags i use:

this is my cat rucksack,i bought it because it looks like mr shadow give or take a few missing grey patches. i use it as my sensory rescue bag, its got all my sensory gear in it [excluding my weighted lap blankets] and a spare nappy as well.

my other bag:

i use it for carrying my tablet and my camera-and their wires,i wanted it bright so it stands out and i can see it on my floor better and find all my stuff when i need it.

staff are in control of my money so they carry it in one of my tote bags along with medication, but for that i have a long unisex type purse, it has both chickens and cats on;my favourite animals.

I realize I wasn't clear before: I still have my purse (I do love it!) but it is inside the backpack. And acts as a bunch of dividers, with the option now of grabbing that instead of the whole backpack if I am just going to lunch or whatever.

I think I have an engineering kind of mind :)

I've never done the purse thing - I hate the feeling of being weighed down, and I know it would be 3 minutes max before I put it down somewhere and lose it.

I try to keep everythin very simple, so a single wallet and car keys in my pockets. I don't have a cell phone, laptop, ipad, though I understand that for some people, that is a requirement for their job.

Keys: Car key + one more.

Man's trifold wallet. I constantly refuse loyalty cards and club cards, pre-paid cards, to keep my wallet slim.

@toothless, I love your cat backpack!
thankyou,i got it in a posh artsy shop in chorlton, manchester, they had it by the window along with a matching mug and i was entranced by its feline beauty, had to get it,didnt have enough for the mug though, that was like....£12? i thinks.
you should be able to get an equivilent rucksack online. :)

hat backpack is fabulous. I used a backpack at school as it was the only bag big enough for al school tuff (and the physio as nagging me) but I never liked it as it wouldn't stay on one shoulder (I have a scoliosis) so now I use an across the body bag (satchel).

I had a custom messenger bag made on the website at Timbuktu. I now use it as a fine overnight bag.
