I have an interview at 14.30 on Tuesday

At Syrac Inspirations in Town.

They've seen my CV on a job site and contacted me based on it.

Only thing is, they'll probably be offering full time work, 40 hours a week which for reasons discussed at length on here, I can't do but I'll try and work that out with them.

It's a sales and "Event Management" job, so it might mean a bit of travelling, also not good for someone who will probably never drive, but let's not get too negative.

Congratulations! I hope it goes well :)

Is there a way to include on that job site that you are only looking for part time work?

Or could you add it to your CV? I don't know what differences there may be between a CV and a resume or what kind of differences exist may exist between Canada and the UK, but at least in Canada resumes often include a brief statement at the top to clarify career/professional goals or just the type and amount of work you're looking for.

I did kind of specify part time when I signed up to the job site recently. As for specifying part time on my CV, I would but I think it would put a lot of potential employers off, so I'm kind of damned either way really.

Although having said that, in the likely event the interview next week goes South, Game are recruiting for Christmas from October, so I might try there, as it combines 2 things I'm good at, selling stuff to customers, and Xbox games, I'd even serve Sony and Nintendo fans.

As an employer, i suggest you speak positively and confidently about what you can bring to their team and why you would suit the position.

Often employers will bend their initial parameters for the right fit.
The goal for an employer is to get the job done. Ideally by the best suited applicant.
Be that applicant.

If you have limitations, tell them. Honesty up front will serve you well. Otherwise you run the risk of termination at a later stage.
I've made allowances for the right applicant by negotiating hours, working from home, etc.

If you don't drive, give them a solution to that problem. Public transport ... uber etc. Suggest travel expenses be included in the package.

If you are unable to work the full asking weekly hours, explain that you are able to focus intently unlike other employees and can get 5 days work completed in 3 or provide them with a reasonable alternative.

Don't go with problems. Go armed with solutions and a positive attitude.

Best of luck!

I plan to go to the interview and see how it pans out.

Can't get too involved in the semantics, it'd send me and my Parents daft.

Well I just got back from the interview, and got an email asking me "why I missed the interview" from a lady called Claudia, you what? I DID attend the interview, I spoke to a lady called Laura.

They don't seem very organised IMO, I've just spoke to Claudia on the mobile and she says they're having technical problems with their email system! Smh.

If it were me, I'd include part time only to the cv profile on the jobsite. They don't know your commitments, if you were committed in some other way you'd probably do it.

As for damned either way, I'm not so sure. Your applying for jobs in a way, that you sort of know you can't do.

It's Unnecessary pressure on you. I'd hate having to put it on them when they think I wanted FT. I'd most probably stress and stress over when and how, and maybe flunk it semi deliberately. Or bolt. Ignore. Etc.

Besides, if you play it straight, then you get an interview, then your only stress is on the day, how you get by.

I hope it works out for you Richard.

I kind of did.

But the emails I get from the job sites seem to be sending me in the direction of call centres, and there's no call for part time work in call centres.

I think the interview today went better than I was expecting, but I still don't think I'll get it.
