I have an interview at 4 PM today!

Mr Allen

Well-Known Member
V.I.P Member
At AtlasCorp in Town.

I think it's the second stage interview from the one I went to the other week because it's at the same place.

The interview went better than I thought it would.

I am expecting a call tomorrow to let me know either way, although she did say they were interviewing 40 people including me, and could only call back 3 or 4.

I was forced to declare my disabilities and the fact I can only work up to 16 hours due to not being able to come off ESA, whether that will be an issue I don't know, it has before.

As long as your disabilities aren't unrealistic for the work required, then this shouldn't legally effect your chances in the UK, for instance a person in a wheelchair obviously wouldn't be-able to work as a builders labourer on scaffolding, but they should have exactly the same opportunity if they were applying for an office job, but whether it really does affect your chances is debatable and in my opinion depends on the particular employer. If they're only calling back 3 or 4 people out of 40 then you've only got a slim chance, but keep trying and you will get one eventually, I've said before that I have a lot of respect for you for trying so hard, you most certainly deserve a good part time position that you are happy with. Best of luck!

PS: Also look for jobs with your local council and other large equal opportunity employers since they can go out of their way to ensure they're not prejudiced against people with disabilities or any other minority group and they often even make sure that they employ a certain percentage.

A few years ago I applied to the Council to be a "Lollipop Man", I didn't get it, and I've applied to them for other stuff, they keep saying I haven't declared my disability.

As for the disability being unrealistic for the job, there is a slight issue that I don't drive and it's not likely I ever will, so if the job involves travelling, I'm a bit stuck, but I'll cross that Bridge if and when I come to it.

One bad thing with councils and the public sector in the UK is they often have a lot of red tape rules, I assume you wrote on the application form about any disabilities? If so do you know what they meant and is it possible to correct for any future applications?

PS: I don't really like calling autism a disability when it's on the higher functioning end of the spectrum, but we sometimes have to go along with it in situations like this.

I'm assuming I didn't get the job, I rang up on Thursday and they said they'd ring yesterday to let me know, and I had my mobile on all day and no messages or anything.

I'll ring up Monday.

It's probably the 16 hour limit of which I'm allowed to work that's the problem, but I'm kind of stuck because if I get sanctioned I end up Homeless or worse, and I ain't giving the government the satisfaction.

Homeless is not a good place to be so I can understand why you want to be at that 16 hour limit. I was close to that myself towards the end of last summer. I don't want to be 40 y/o and living on the streets.
