Welcome to Australia too; from Brisbane myselfOkay! Now I have a little bit more time...
Hi everyone. I'm Dan, a former Englishman (I received my Australian Citizenship yesterday in fact) with four children. I'm 33 and write books.
My 'official' Aspies journey started a few weeks ago. I was going through a cycle of depression with increased OCD tendencies so saw my doctor. He immediately reached for the prescription pad for anit-depressants, but instead had a change of heart and sent me to the psyche. After a few sessions with him, he diagnosed me with Aspies.
Reading a few stories here of people who were diagnosed later in life, I shared a few of the reactions. It explained a lot, the fits of depression were down to the social segregation (which then you try harder at, which leads to more mental exhaustion...ah, you vicious cycle) and OCD disruptions getting too much. I can manage all this better just knowing what's going and with no need for medication!
One of my reasons for joining this group is that new things are coming up all the time and, from my experience above, it's always good to talk about them. I haven't spoke to my psyche in weeks now but I would still like to feel I have a support network in place and not have to go running to him every time I have a problem. It would also be great to help others. I start a second degree next year, this one in psychology, so would be good to start early! ;-)
