If I ordered 2 US games from Play-Asia.com would I get stung for import taxes?

Topic.

I live in Sheffield, England and would like to order the US versions of Doom and Battleborn on Xbox One from PlayAsia.com which are sold for around the same price in UK Pounds as the PAL versions when converted from the US prices give or take about 2 Quid.

Thing is, the PAL version of Battleborn comes out this Tuesday, and Doom is out on the 13th, so should I wait and get the UK PAL versions or risk getting stung for import taxes and order the import versions? I think the import version of Battleborn is Chinese with English audio and subtitles.

Import taxes and perhaps custom duties would apply on games bought from another country. Especially in the case of games that would eventually be sold in the UK.

I'll wait for the UK versions then, I don't want to pay a fortune in import taxes when I can get the UK games from Amazon or Game.

Looks like a 4.7% most-favored-nation rate, plus 20% value-added tax to the UK from China.

But play-asia.com....that's technically in Hong Kong. Not sure if tariff-free policies apply between Hong Kong and the UK. Might be worth investigating if this applies and is applicable to software. But then "place of origin" considerations may apply as well.

Ugh. Gives me a headache.

Still works out cheaper to wait then, plus it takes about 28 days for the games to reach me buying on import, whereas if I buy them online from a UK site I'd get it day after next.

I'd go that way on general principle. Prefer to deal on a retail basis with local distributors as much as is possible.

This is for one game Rich Allen, Doom with english subtitles.

Total customs value (CIF): £58.14 This is the amount that customs values your import at
- Duty: £0.00
- VAT: £11.63
Total import duty & taxes due: £11.63 This is the amount that needs to be paid to customs
- Product, shipping & insurance: £58.14
Total landed cost: £69.77 This is the total cost of importing, including product, shipping, insurance and import duty & taxes

at exchange rate of 1 GBP = 1.28 EUR
Calculation and compliance notes
Notes on duty & taxes rates and compliance
  • Video Game is duty free and has a VAT rate of 20% . Media as well as unconstitutional publications deemed to be offensive, immoral, contrary or/and likely to harm minors are prohibited from importation. [Some Probability]. This product does not have dual-use and therefore does not require an Export Control Classification Number (ECCN).

This is a general figure for one of the games you mentioned being interested in.

Thanks Mia but I'll wait for the PAL version, can't afford £69.
