Illness and anxiety etc

Hey guys, I just wanted to ask a few questions.

I'm currently quite ill with the horrible cold / flu type thing going round at the moment and I'm having some weird / annoying / stressful moments and wondered if anyone else on here ever has anything of the like.

During the last day or so, I keep having moments of just needing to get up and move to "do something" but whatever I do, it doesn't stop my "need to do something" and I get kinda stressed and end up pacing & having hot flashes where the only thing that helps me cool down is basically opening all windows getting as much air as possible. It's happened a few times today and the space between the "need" is getting shorter and shorter.

Bloody hell, I'm trying to type this and make sure it makes sense but I'm having trouble concentrating, ergh, screw being ill man.

If any does anything like this or knows of anything like this, please lemme know

I was wondering about this too, LYTM. It may be a weird Aspie immune system thing. When I had the flu, it began like a normal 'feel like crap' flu then turned into a cough the Dr. Called CROUP that sounds like a cross between a dog barking & a horse neighing: tres annoying. that same restlessness hit me too & I remember even mentioning it somewhere in the forum that my body just wanted to move. I didn't consider it to be anxiety so much as restlessness. Anyhow, I made the rather foolish decision to get up & whirl through the house doing a whole bunch of stuff. Felt great at the time...then I was slammed down by Pneumonia.

What I'm wondering is whether or not researchers should be looking at immune system function as a trait integral to Asperger's syndrome. Too many of us have immune system problems from Multiple Sclerosis to Lupus, to all kinds of Arthritic conditions, to Fibromialgia. Some of us are 'blessed' with more than 1 such condition. The root causes of our famed sensitivities to fabrics, tags in our clothing, smells & other sensory input may have more to do with over & under-active immune systems than anything 'mental' requiring a shrink. For instance, I tried for curiosity's sake, to see what would happen to my skin if I chose to wear a fabric I found irritating. I didn't take a Reactine on purpose (YES...I used myself as a guinea pig....another less than brilliant decision!...they're beginning to accumulate...). Well, after about 30 mins of itching & soreness, my skin broke out in a gross red rash (looked like tiny hives). That was definitely NOT 'all in my head'. I'd bet that the same would happen to other Aspies if they were to experiment with their sensory issues.

As for your typing, you made perfect senst, Now, rest up & do NOT do either of the 2 dumb things I mention in this post!

I think there is a connection between Asperger's/Autism and Adrenal fatigue, even if it's just that people are more prone to adrenal fatigue if they also have anxiety from asperger's. Plus, being sick puts a strain on your adrenal glands even more. Unless you were actually feverish (which usually makes people cold, I think) it sounds like you were having bouts of low blood sugar, which causes your adrenal glands to release adrenaline to keep you from passing out. The adrenaline has the effect of making you want to get up and get things done, and making you feel weird, wired, hot flashy, and shakey if it goes too far.

I would say check out Dr. Aieta's videos on youtube about adrenal problems, eat more protein- nuts and soy and stuff aren't really complete proteins that will help, so go for eggs, cheese, unprocessed chicken and beef, and vitamin c foods like kiwis and stuff. Smoothies are great for getting that stuff down. Taking msm helps too, as well as ultimate flora adult formula probiotics for steadying blood sugar. I can't do without them. You can get them from vitacost.com for a better price than at health food stores. They also do a great job of warding off the sickies, or shortening the duration of an ilness.

@Holly: I was eating 1 of those probiotic yogurts daily (fat free Activia) but then I added the supplement a couple of weeks ago & I really feel different & healthier in a way that's hard to articulate. I'm less stressed, my head seems clearer & the Fibro fatigue has really lessened. I don't crave salty stuff (chips were my big-bad) & the sweet cravings are gone completely! Like magic!

I may have to give that a go as my crisps in-take is through the roof.... Some days I have them on lunch and on breaks, not good.

@ LYTM: All that salt will definitely raise your blood pressure rendering you more stressed & anxious. It also is very hard on the arteries, your kidneys & your liver. I feel so much better since adding the probiotics & ditching the chips entirely. I literally haven't eaten a single one since 2 days before Halloween.

I never used to eat them ravenously BUT had I been fool enough to keep them in the house, I definitely would have! I bought those small Halloween sized kiddy bags BUT I was eating 1/day. I know that doesn't sound like a lot but that was more than the normal daily requirement for salt in one shot & since I'm a very small person, it was a lot for my system. I felt bloated, achy, sluggish, stressed & just a general malaise. As things stand now, I'm only tempted to buy them out of the habit of doing so BUT I don't have that "GOTTAHAVECHIPS!!!" madcap craving any more. FINALLY!

Other than my severe anxiety, I also suffer from psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. I have diverticulitis as well and I am almost 40 years old. My doctor told me that people 50 and older get that. Does anyone else have these same conditions as I do?

My Aunt had Fibro, Psoriatic Arthritis & Diverticulitis. I have Fibro & Ankylosing Spondylitis. Are you taking Enbrel? I take Simponi. So many of us have autoimmune disorders that it isn't even funny. Everything from Multiple Sclerosis to Lupus. Strange!

I used to take Enbrel. It's just too new for me and I don't want to take any more meds than I have to. If the pain and psoriasis tends to get worse, I may have to go back on it.

The Enbrel was good for me...until it wasn't. I had an extreme skin reaction that looked like Shingles! I was covered in these disgusting blisters. Fortunately, after stopping the Enbrel, & taking a bunch of other meds, the reaction healed & luckily, I'm not scarred. After a year of other meds, it was safe to try Simponi. The self-injection process is much less painful than with Enbrel.
