I'm doing Three Peaks for Felix Brown - because Felix's mum taught me it was okay to be different

TEENAGER Luke Adams hated school so much he was ready to give up.

The 16-year-old has Asperger's Syndrome and always felt like he didn't fit in.

However one teacher made him realise it was okay to be different and now he is taking on a gruelling challenge to give something back after her 10-year-old son Felix Brown was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Luke, who is sitting 11 GCSEs at The Bourne Academy, said: "When I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at the age of 10 I felt like I didn't fit in and school was the place I hated the most. Mrs Brown helped change that when I was in senior school, she helped me understand that being 'different' wasn't a bad thing.

"This year I'll sit 18 exams on top of four I have already sat and I owe a lot of that to Mrs Brown. Felix also went to pre-school with my little brother Lloyd and he'd always come back saying what a fun day he had and I know Felix made his first few years a lot easier as Mrs Brown later did for me. For this reason, I would like to give something back."

The 16-year-old will take on the Three Peaks Challenge next Saturday when he will trek a total of 1,300 miles up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours.

"I'm really looking forward to it and feel really determined. I think I'm well prepared so it should go well."

So far, Luke, from Winton who plans to study psychology, biology, chemistry and maths at college, has raised more than £1,000 for Felix and his family.

As reported in the Daily Echo, Felix was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in January after routine blood tests.

He launched a blog called The Diary of Mr Felix Brown which has more than 6,000 followers and mum Kerry has since started blogging online under The Diary of Mrs Brown to come to terms with the cancer diagnosis.
