I'm in the process of starting a process

As I wrote in the title, I'm in the process of starting the process of selling up and buying a new home in the north of the country.

One friend, not ND, keeps telling me to not rush. She doesn't get it that I've been rolling this idea, this plan, of selling up and moving for YEARS! It's not like I suddenly jumped out of bed one morning, and said : I'm going to sell my place and buy a new one...

My mother actually contracted an agency some 12 years ago. But it never got anywhere. 🤷‍♀️ They never did anything, probably because their commission on the sale would be insignificant. they want to push the millions sales, or the hundreds of thousands. Mine isn't even 90.000 😆so they don't bother.

Anyway... all of a sudden time seems to be short 🙈
So much to do, so much bureaucracy to go through.

My anxiety is having fun with me.

The Portuguese cook chicken in many different ways.
So Oporto is a bit like Outback Steakhouse is in the US?

I only learned about Outback Steakhouse recently, it's a US restaurant chain that markets itself as "Australian Cuisine" but was developed by people that have never even visited Australia and have no idea. They hang a few pictures of kangaroos and koalas around the place and sell Texas style barbecue. Not one item on their menu is even closely related to anything Australian.

A "gimmick" pretty much, but their bloomin' onion rings are to die for. :D

I suspect most Americans wouldn't know authentic Australian cuisine if it bit them on the arse. ;)

Australian cuisine is very much British cuisine except for a few odds and ends. I think the only truly iconic Australian food is the meat pie, you can buy them fresh and hot from every corner shop and petrol station. Warning, they are hot and no matter how much practice you have you will burn your mouth, very tasty though, and cheap.

That and Pavlova for desert, which I never liked, too sickly sweet.

Out of curiosity I just had a quick look at housing prices in Lisboa, there's very little available for under 100K. And what is available for that price is incredibly tiny and in very poor condition. People actually live in places with only 13 square metres of floor space? I don't think that would be legal here.

Might pay you to have a look at other listings to get a better idea of what your place is really worth.

What you say may be true, but they must be Australian because all the announcers in their TV ads all have fake Australian accents. Besides, their prices are in the obscene range considering what they serve.

Are you certain it is safe to just jump right in on that? Perhaps you need a process for making a process to start a process (from an old Dilbert strip).

I tried a online evaluation and 2 people, realtors, called me.
Both seem eager to sell, but I think only because the stupid site marked my property as being somewhere a lot more desirable.
Still, they want to do a visit to check the place out.

I really shouldn't get my hopes up🙈 but if they find me a buyer who will give me more than I was already offered, I'll take it.

I hate this process 😆 my brain can't stop. All I can do whike I wait is house hunt.😆

I've been looking too. It's interesting because it's so different to where I live. It's actually quite informative, looking at a country through it's housing market. If you're sure it's what you want you're definitely moving in the right direction moneywise.

In the regions you mentioned you'd prefer you can get some reasonable places for around 30,000 and nice places for around 40,000.

The first one I'm linking here would clean up nicely and be very comfortable for a single person, you can use the smaller bedroom for hobby stuff. If you look closely in the photos though you can see that part of the roof is sagging, that's not good. Could turn out to be expensive later.

The second one looks really nice for 37,000 but it also looks like there's rot in the walls. From what I've seen that seems to be quite common in a lot of houses at the lower end of the market.

My boyfriend arrives in one week. We will then look for a place near the beach. But l don't want the hassle of renting out my current place, l am going to grab the cash and vamose. But good luck with the horrendous logistics of selling and moving. That is a big stressor, along with losing your job or losing a loved one or pet. In the USA, we are having to deal with squatters, people that just move in, lie and say you rented to them. It takes filing with the court to evict them, which is time-consuming. You maybe surprised with a quick sale. It's a process, of a process, which eventually will be finished.
