HEY HEY GUYS! ok calm down Irkoutsk... I'm going soon to Turkey! It will be the first time of my life that I will go in a muslim country. Have you ever been in a muslim country for tourism and, if you did, did you like it?

I was a regular visitor to Turkey for many years, mostly business but some pleasure. Istanbul is like any other capital city in terms of peoples attitudes, it when you travel out you find the 'real' folk. I loved Turkey and it's people, so have a great time out there :)

I have also travelled around Syria, Lebanon and Libya without any problems, although that was many years ago, I think I would stay away now.

Good advice. Timing is everything. Interesting city and country though.

These days it's likely that much of anyone Islamic or not is heavily scrutinized when traveling to and from Turkey because of the war in Syria. It might be worth the effort to directly contact the RCMP and be transparent with them about what they construe as a "high-risk traveler".

They probably won't give out any specifics, but at least you'll know what you might be dealing with upon coming home. After all, your countrymen can be found on both sides of this conflict.

I just buyed 2000 turkish pound for 1053 canadian dollar. My airplane ticket and hotel are ready to be paid so lets go to Turkey!

Hope you have a great time! Turkey is somewhere I've wanted to go myself for a long time. I remember a radio DJ on KUT in Austin, TX saying that if you want to see ancient Greek ruins, Turkey is actually where you want to go to, I wonder if you will be anywhere near any of those.

:p

Yes, I visited Istanbul many years ago. Just like any major city, very big, noisy, chaotic, but there are many interesting places to visit, such as Hagia Sophia and Topkapi and the Basilica with its Medusa heads. The bazaars and interesting, but I found them claustrophobic. I also enjoyed a ride on a boat on the Bosphorus. I know that there are many more museums and other places worth visiting, but I didn't have time to see more. I hope you enjoy your trip!

I'm excited for you!:grinning:

I hope you have a great time there. I also hope you take lots of pictures and tell us about your adventures when you get back.
