I'm surprised.

I was just surprised after checking the forum that under the obsessions that astrology and/or cosmology didn't show up. On that note, I love my obsessions, not to sound like a bigot, but I do. I'm obsessed with biology, cosmology, and certain music (piano mostly). I guess I differentiate from the pack in my school then. My leading fact on that judgement is that I was called a "nerd" in my school. That's not the hook line yet though, I go to a private school. Yep, situated as a "nerd" in a private school. I find it easy to take in new information, and that with a swift reading of books makes it so that in a couple days I can have a huge amount of information gathered and be able to recite about it easily. Damn, caught myself rambling. Anyway, that was just my two cents.

Why does that make you sound like a "bigot"?

But I love physics and cosmology, so you are most definitely not alone there! There are plenty of others on here who love it as well. I'm reading Brian Greene's The Hidden Reality and am soon to move on to Sean Carroll's The Particle at the Edge of the Universe. I don't know as much about biology, but I think it's way cool, especially molecular biology.

In fact, good of you to start a thread on it! Hooray!

Thanks. I just meant that with all the threads with all these topics, I couldn't find one on those, mostly just topics with items instead. Although I do tend to get obsessed with collecting books on cosmology, virology, and evolution. By the way, I'll check those authors out, but if you like physics, I also recommend Michio Kaku and Richard Panek.

I'm sure I'm much more of a "layman" than you, but I think Greene does a superb job (more than many others) at explaning concepts (like relativity, quantum fields, etc.). I have not read any of Sean Carroll's books yet, but I love the stuff he writes for the Cosmic Variance blog.

EDIT: Whoops! I missed that he doesn't blog there anymore. He's moved here.

Oh, that's good then I suppose. Thanks, no sarcasm, seriously, no sarcasm. By good I mean that the authors I read mostly go into detail and into every detail. It could give a better understanding of it to me to also use those authors writings as well then. The more knowledge the better.
