Insane Memory and stories to match.

One thing with us that’s extremely common is having an excellent memory.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m former Volunteer Search & Rescue having done 7 years and have been doing Security in varying roles almost 21 years. I get asked all the time if having what I have has made things different than with others in my field. Answer to that is no at all. Besides bringing some extra skill sets for the benefit of myself and the team, there’s no other aspect about me that have impacted things. The way I tell it to those is put simply. “I have Autism. Autism doesn’t have me”.

The next question from those who get introduced to being under my influence or leadership is one of curiosity about things I’ve seen in my years of doing what I do. The Memory Levels we on the Spectrum are known for makes for interesting times because the amount of things I’ve been through would give most people PTSD. But due to having a different mind, I was tested for but don’t have PTSD. How did I manage this? Two things. I compartmentalize and I inject humor. I’m a smartass to work with but am told that it makes coming to work fun for those around me. I use the stories of my experiences of my career to make things that much funnier for them and myself.

The number one question I get…..”What’s the most interesting thing you’ve experienced?”.
Easy. I’ve mentioned before that I used to live and work in Las Vegas. I was Armed VIP Transport for many of the High Rollers and Competitive Poker Players through much of 2010 and a portion of 2011. That said, I worked the Strip for the Resorts there. One night, I was on shift at 1:30 in the morning. I’m bouncing between the Security Office to let them know I’m there, Front Office for Paperwork, and the Armory to get issued my Sidearm. After all that, I swing over to the Main Entrance of the Resort to meet my teammate that night. He goes and gets something to eat. While he’s doing that, I observed two street performers in a fight. An Elvis Impersonator and a guy in a Mickey Mouse Costume. I called the main Security Team to come help, but I immediately go to break it up. Elvis Impersonator despite being drunk wised up and bounced out. Drunken Mickey Mouse thought it was a wise idea to turn around and try to swing at me next. I immediately grabbed him up, pinned him, and held him there until Security got there. Right as they arrived, Metro Police also arrive. I was asked if I wanted to press charges but I declined for one reason and one reason only. How on earth do you take the stand in Court and testify that you got swung at by the one guy nobody in their lifetime every suspects would assault them, and do so without laughing? If it’s a Drunken Mickey, there is no way in hell you can testify to that without laughing, so no, I wasn’t touching that. They took him to sober up and the next night, he was right back on the Strip.

Yes, you read that correctly. I got swung at by a Drunk Guy that was dressed up as Mickey Mouse. There went what I know about childhood right there. I crossed something off my Bucket List that I didn’t even know was on my Bucket List. Vegas after Midnight for you.
