Inspiring Autistic musical artist

I'm going through a really tough time emotionally, at the moment and so I started crying at the first notes this amazing young man sang. He reminded me of myself as a near-mute teenager singer. Music, singing, basically gave me essental life-communication skills. Music gave me my life from nearly non verbalness, not as extreme as this young man, but enough that I can cry remembering how important singing has been for me, as an autistic woman.

Good post Neri, I like it. I've discovered an Aussie hero that I really admire who has different but similar issues. He has battled mental problems and drug addiction for most of his young life, but he also produces Australia's most beloved cooking shows.

I can't post a link in here because his English is a bit too Australian for the wowsers, but do a search on youtube for Nat's What I Reckon.

That's pretty awesome. I didn't know I was autistic when I was growing up (for better and worse!), but music has always affected me (seemingly, based on conversations) more than the average NT. It kind of feels like its own little secret world for me, which... might only make sense if you also feel the same way, come to think of it :D

I'm watching music's soothing and helpful nature with my youngest (also autistic, 18 year old) son at the moment. He's turned into a much less tortured youth by focusing on music, a lot. He's struggled enormously with his metal health and social ability (no surprises there, he is after all, my same neuro phenotype child). And this past year he has developed intense hyper focus on learning to sing, play guitar, program music and listen to a HUGE variety of awesome artists.
We sing together now and have a ton of fun. We talk about music A LOT as well. It's very reparative and awesome! :)

I left a comment on the bottom of the above video and Ryan, the fantastic singer featured here, left love hearts under my comment. :)
