Interview Tomorrow

Mattymatt

Imperfectly Perfect
I have an interview tomorrow to drive for a limousine company. This one I am really excited about because they're literally 1/10th of a mile away from my apartment. Yes, I have to deal with people but I am fine with it. The good thing is that I would be an independent contractor so I would have the freedom to accept or decline trips. The limousine company has buses which I think I might eventually drive but I am just simply looking to get the ball rolling, employment wise. I have an LLC already formed for when I do contract work so I am pretty much ready to rock and roll! I usually interview pretty well so here's to hoping that I will be working again tomorrow.

Work close to home is always nice. I held a job for six years where my shortest travel time was around 64 seconds. For once the lights were all green straight through.

Oddly enough the job moved some 31 miles to nearby where I lived. Saving me from a costly commute I had for several years. :)

I got hired or rather approved to contract with the limo company. I just need to get drug tested and some suitable attire and I am ready to go. It feels good to finally have gainful work again.

Hip hip hooray!!!!!!! This is GREAT NEWS!!!!

Well, I started my first day and despite giving my first two customers a really quality experience, and of course, no gratuity. I always leave gratuities for service. For 2 trips, I earned 60.00. I hate the wealthy. Since I am an independent contractor, I set aside 1/3 of that into a savings account so I can pay quarterly taxes. It's an ignominous start.

If it's posh Limo driving, you might need to wear a Tuxedo, they're quite expensive so save up a bit :)

Ahhh, they should have tipped you MattyMatt! I too hate the wealthy, as a lot of them are THE more cheapest money grubbing. Hopefully, you will get a more generous tipster soon!

Is the job a generous hourly wage? Or are you paid by the trip? Hope you make enough!

I have a uniform Fetish. I have always loved the old British chauffeur uniform! It’s so exciting! Sadly it’s no longer in use. I am talking of the uniform they had in the 1930s/40s.

I don't need to wear a tuxedo, just a dark suit. Amazon has stuff that I need for a little over a 100.00. I hate the job.

You hate the job? How many days have you worked now? I am sorry about that. Maybe it will get better? Are there better limo companies you can switch to after a month or two experience?

If it’s any consolation, I am not physically able to continue with mine either. I have been calling in sick and in the very busiest of days, and it’s not been even one month yet. I am suffering badly in pain and now numbness in my hands. It’s getting worse.

Oh wow! I am sorry Mary Anne. I do hope you get to feeling better soon. I am so sorry that you're experiencing pain and numbness in your hands as that is no fun at all. Yes, sadly I don't like the job very much. Maybe hate was a little bit hard but I was annoyed that I gave really good customer service only to have the guy walk off without a tip. Honestly, netting about 70.00 for two hours worth of work isn't bad. Perhaps, I just need to get used to working again?

It's not much of a uniform really. I almost look like a waiter. LOL!

At least you get to sit and save your back. :) Thanks for caring about my people hysical problems.

No it’s not bad to make $ 35/hr. Not bad at all! You could be working at a “big box” store for $9 - $11.50 / hr. A whole lot of people work at Walmart for a paltry $9.00 an hour! Not any living wage whatsoever!

Also, have you read the anti-tipping thread from people taking Uber?? It’s just the way some feel. Give it time! I am sure someone will tip nicely and put a smile on your face- soon! Yes, getting used to work again is quite challenging. Don’t forget now too, the having to deal with people is much more exposure that truck driving. It’s a lot. But you are not expected to be very social, so that is a plus! Could you make more money driving for Uber or Lyft?

I am actually going to work my way back into a truck. I don't really want to drive over the road but I don't have really much of a choice either. Over the road means living out of a truck for 3-4 weeks at a time and then home for several days. I am thinking about just sucking it up and doing it. At some point, I just have to grow a pair and get it done.

I wish I could trade places with you because I often dream of being a open road cross country truck driver- it would be AWESOME! (As long as I did not encounter gridlock or any large city traffic). I have often thought that is I were younger I would go get a CDL and do it!

I have 2 cats and would have to consider that, but no family to worry about. I suspect you have family at home? I am not lonely. I want to get away from people.

No, I don't have a family. I am single with no children and I never married. Commercial Driving looks easier than it actually is. You will deal with gridlock and heavy traffic which is much harder when operating a large, heavy vehicle. Truck driving is at its best on the wide open country roads and at night. I much prefer driving at night because fewer people are on the road and you can make mileage.

I absolutely HATE gridlock! I hate shifting too.

Night driving might be the way to go, but with deadlines, most drivers have no choice. I love driving at night, but my vision is not that good anymore. And critters cross the road at night. I love all the wildlife.

I thought of you today when I saw a Hummer stretch limo the size of an 18 wheeler truck, and the color of “Barbie Pink.” I guess things could be worse huh? :)
