Hi everyone,
My name is Kristin. I am the mom of a 15 year old boy with AS. His name is Jake and I love him more than anything. I'm just going to be honest even though no one knows me yet...I'm sad and worried. Jake seems unhappy all the time now and its breaking my heart. I want every teacher and kid in his school to know what its like to be him for one day. How hard he tries.

Jakes younger sister, Juliet (she's 12) said out loud in the car today that she wished %50 of people in the world had ASD. That way everyone would be "even" and understand and appreciate each other more and Jake would always feel accepted. I loved that idea!
I am happy to find this site. Looking for any insight to help, support and understand my beautiful kid.

I am not always debby downer. I swear. I love music, laughing, writing, cooking, watching movies, running, reading, animals, my family.....oh and anything that has chocolate in it or on it.

thanks for listening!

Welcome :)

That post wasn't bad at all, it was actually quite sweet (though just for future reference, we're all about tolerance here; for both Aspies, and Neurotypicals). I'm sure you'll find lots of information here. Our members are quite helpful and friendly, so feel free to add to our discussions. I've also added a few links which I hope will benefit you.

Should you wish to find any books on AS, I recommend our resources section:

If you have yet to discover Dr. Tony Attwood, I definitely recommend looking in to him: Home

Welcome to the world of the aspie :)

I hope you find us informative here and friendly

None of us would see you as a downer and there many of us willing to offer good support. Welcome to the site.

Hi Kristin :) I think you've definitely come to the right place. I've only just joined myself, but everyone is so lovely here that I hope you'll be able to find everything you're looking for. Being a teen with AS isn't the most pleasant of experiences, but it seems to get a little easier once you finish high school because everyone seems to grow up a little and becomes more accepting. I'm at university now, but even at college (sorry I don't know if this applies to where you live!) the staff and even other neurotypical students seem to be much better at understanding and supporting people with AS or ASD. I hope everything works out for you and your son.

Hi! Thanks for saying hello. I appreciate your comments so much. This community is wonderful. Its uncanny how things, people, resources come into your life when you need them. I am a big believer in the idea that thoughts become things so we should try to pick the good ones. Not always easy but worth it.
Oh gosh, I didn't mean to come across anti NT. Not at all.
I am anti unkind but that's about it. Our school district (L

That's quite alright; I knew you meant well :)

and Part 2! I should know better than to be typing on the laptop while making sandwiches and filling out picture day forms. haha. sorry..

ill finish my last sentence and sign off. Multi tasking is not in the cards this morning. ha. I was saying we have a great school system. They try. There is just a lack of knowledge. Its not intentional. I am working to try to remedy that. I do wish there was more empathy from other students but I think knowledge will help that too

I honestly feel so much better just being here. I cant thank you enough. I hope that I can share my strength, experiences and some laughs along the way with everyone. Be back later. Have a wonderful day all.

Welcome to the forums; I'm glad you've found us. :)

I was in a very similar situation when I was your son's age. I became quite depressed, and none of my teachers understood, or thought it necessary to intervene on my behalf...in fact, there was an administrator who made things so awful that I wound up leaving and finishing high school elsewhere. I strongly recommend the checking out the Resources section as Vanilla advised. And keep advocating and fighting for him! You've come here, so I know you're ready and willing to do that. Bravo!

Hello Kristin, and welcome.
Your son has a very special gift, and he already has all that he needs to succeed, someone who loves him and accepts him as he is. This world is difficult for those who do not fall in line, and your son never will. It is important that he realize that he is different in a special way, and that he has gifts that others do not share. We will never change the way society acts toward us, but we can change how we perceive it. Teach your son about people like Copernicus, who was ridiculed as a heretic and crazy but soon became revered as a genius. It does not really matter how we are seen, but how we see.
It is OK to be different and it is important that your son does not grow to become bitter for how people react to this. Help him to grow in his interests and find productive ways to channel his energy, and he will be fine. You are a good mom and I know that you will do all you can for him. I speak from my heart, and from my own life as I was different, but without support and understanding. Back in my day, even my own family did not understand and treated me differently.

Hello and welcome to our little community :D

There's no real bad introductions and you're not really obligated to make a good one, just a little bit about yourself or your experiences or whatever you want to write that your comfortable with is good enough :D

I'm not good with introductions neither lol
