Somebody from Doncaster, England called Rachel Hunt.

She wanted to come to mine this morning to meet me, and wanted me to pay the £45 Taxi fare from Doncaster.

I was literally like, what? Even if I had the 45 quid, and I don't, why would I pay for a stranger to come up to Sheffield?

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

On 1 hand she said she had no money, hence the request for me to pay her Taxi fare, then she said she'd pay me back, with what? Chicken feed? :D

@Mr Allen

If "chicken feed" is your term for what
she hopes that you hope she means,
then...suuuuure, by all means, go ahead
and front her the money.

I know she (if she is a she) will be very
appreciative.

But if you send *Rachel Hunt* the money,
I don't think you need to worry about tidying
up for her visit.

I am glad you didn't pay because this person is most likely a scammer.

Any time you meet a complete stranger and money quickly comes into the equation, it will always be in your best interest to surmise that it's a scam and little else.

You have to accept that for as transparently you carry yourself about being Neurodiverse and/or searching for companionship, that there will always be those predators who will attempt to exploit you on that alone. 45p may not sound like a lot. Unless you factor in the possibility that this person has approached hundreds of others in the exact same manner for exactly the same purpose day end and day out.

Otherwise your own kindness and compassion will be your undoing. Sad, but in this world it's that simple.

Have you guys every heard of scambaiting? This little bit of fun is luring in a scammer and wasting as much time and money as possible. I used to regularly respond to these scammers and conduct long email chats back and forth. Once I was invited to go to Nigeria to conduct a transaction. I have a friend that works for United Airlines so I had her drum up a dummy reservation. I told the scammer that I expected to be picked up in a stretch limo. When I never showed, the scammer sent me an email laced with all kinds of foul language and I was roaring with laughter. Many of these scammers have to rent time in an Internet Cafe by the minute so it's expensive. It's even more fun when you can bait them into expensive international phone calls. I once bought a burner phone for such a lark.

I've always maintained a policy of ZERO communication with suspected and obvious phone scammers. People who attempt to make a living on a criminal basis usually are not very cordial. Worse perhaps if "their trade" is tied to organized crime entities. Where they not only get mad, but they attempt to get even.

I neither answer them in real time, or respond to them if they leave a message. Unless of course I recognize both the person calling and their number.

@tree, don't worry, contrary to popular opinion even I'm not that daft, I wouldn't have given her the money even if she'd been genuine.

Oh trust me, one must be very careful while doing this. Hence I used flip phones with no GPS and area codes that were far away from my actual location. I used VPNs to log into the email accounts that I had setup for the bait to prevent GeoIP. They are nasty people and probably would kill.

I don't know about name dropping, I've read the full thread, I guess this name drop could indicate being a scam. Not lady like making her man of her dreams to spend big on a meet up.

As an understatement back in Primary school 30 years ago I had a big crush on girls who were named Rachael.

Yeah I used to like Rachel from Friends, played by Jennifer Aniston, and I still "would".

At best, I would caution 45p might just to get in the door, To more and more
