Just got diagnosed with high functioning ASD

Hello everyone. It's been a long time to finally get this diagnosis. I've known for a year that I had ASD, but was officially diagnosed with high functioning autism spectrum disorder this Saturday. I would like to be able to talk to other people similar to me. I am also born female, which isn't common, especially since I don't have an intellectual disability. I also found out I have LDs. I have had anxiety for most of my life and was diagnosed with GAD, OCD, and social anxiety disorder. I didn't think I had ASD until my pdoc pointed it out because it makes my social anxiety worse and that makes my symptoms of ASD worse. Anyways, glad I joined this forum and hope to meet new people on here [emoji3].

I see. I am trans myself. Through my interaction with the gender-variant community I have made the aquaintence of several non-binary people on the spectrum. Anicdotally, my experience online would also seem to indicate that there is a corelation between non-binary identities and Asperger's in those assigned female at birth.

This would make sense because usually women with ASD act more masculine than women without ASD. This would make a women question herself on if she is actually a female or not.

Hello & welcome. I'm cool with people being non-binary. Whatever makes them happy.

Welcome to A.C.

I declare ignorance on this matter. Why isn't that just a tomboy?

Most of the non binary people I know are also diagnosed as being an aspie/autistic. Maybe it's cause of the belief that autism is due to a "male-dominated brain". There's a huge difference between not feeling comfortable in the body you're in because you don't feel particular aligned to that sex, and wanting to fit another gender's expectations. Obviously gender is what's expected of a certain sex and sex is your actual biological make-up. Non binary people usually don't relate fully to any gender but they also might experience gender dysphoria about their male/female body. I hope this somewhat helped.

How is that different than the classic tomboy? Tomboys have primarily "masculine" interests, but retain typical feminine sex drives. My oldest daughter is more of a tomgirl, but my middle daughter is more of a tomboy. I believe the latter is Aspergers, but she is in denial right now.

A tomboy still knows they are female but acts more male. Someone who is non-binary may not feel fully male or female or those at all and they may not act towards one of the binary genders. Hope this helps [emoji3].
